Lincoln - The Nebraska track and field team wrapped up its final home indoor meet of the 2012 regular season on Friday with the Nebraska Tune-Up at the Devaney Center Indoor Track. The Huskers captured 13 wins on the day as they competed in the final meet before hosting the 2012 Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Mara Griva took the home first-place honors in the women's long jump, recording a mark of 19-6 3/4 (5.96) to receive the event title. Kara Mostoller followed with a second-place finish on a leap of 18-7 3/4 (5.68). In the men's long jump, Scott Jorgenson finished second with a leap of 23-2 1/2 (7.07).
In the triple jump, Elle Ewere recorded a first-place finish with a leap of 39-7 3/4 (12.08). The jump was a personal-best mark for Ewere. Jeanelle Facey finished second with a mark of 39-1 1/4 (11.92), also a personal-best jump. Corey Winston finished second in the men's triple jump, recording a leap of 46-7 1/2 (14.21), while Rashad Moxey finished third with a jump of 45-0 1/4 (13.72).
The Huskers swept the top three spots in the women's weight throw as Victoria Zimmerman finished first with a personal-best throw of 65-10 1/4 (20.07). Taylor Jensen finished second behind a toss of 58-8 (17.88), and Jade Siegel came in third with a mark of 56-6 (17.22). On the men's side, Carter Wasem finished second in the men's weight throw, posting a throw of 61-0 (18.59). Matt Giesselmann came in fifth with a throw of 58-7 1/2 (17.87), while Jacob Griess finished with a mark of 53-8 1/2 (16.37) and Cole Ingram notched a throw of 53-3 3/4 (16.25).
Nebraska swept the shot put, starting with a first-place finish from Tyler Hitchler on a throw of 60-1 (18.31). Chad Wright finished second with a mark of 57-11 1/4 (17.66), while Taylor Shapland came in third after posting a throw of 54-6 3/4 (16.63). On the women's side, Annie Jackson finished first for the Huskers, recording a season-best mark of 50-6 (15.39). Carlie Pinkelman finished second in the shot put, notching a personal-best throw of 49-10 1/2 (15.20), and Veronica Grizzle came in third with a throw of 48-11 (14.91).
Breanna Bussel came away with the women's pole vault title on Friday afternoon, finishing with a personal-best vault of 13-6 1/2 (4.13). Maggie Maher and Cami Jiskra both finished with vaults of 12-6 3/4 (3.83). Nate Polacek earned another victory in the pole vault with a season-best mark of 17-10 1/4 (5.44), and Luke Franssen finished fifth with a vault of 15-10 1/2 (4.84).
In the men's high jump, Carlos Hernandez led the Husker sweep as he notched the event title with a jump of 6-10 1/4 (2.09). Travis Englund finished second with a mark of 6-8 1/4 (2.04), while Devandrew Johnson took third with a personal-best jump of 6-8 1/4 (2.04). In a jump-off on the women's side, Marusa Cernjul finished first with a jump of 5-7 1/4 (1.71) and Jillanna Scanlan came in second with a jump of 5-6 1/2 (1.69). Anne Martin took third with a jump of 5-5 (1.65).
On the track, Mila Andric took top honors in the women's 60 meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 8.63 to match her personal best. Greta Kerekes followed hear lead with a second-place finish on a time of 8.68, and Jordan Stiens completed the Husker sweep with a mark of 8.75 for third-place.
Breunna McCarty finished fourth in the women's 60 meter dash with a time of 7.84. On the men's side, Bjorn Barrefors finished eighth with a time of 7.14, while Teran Walford posted a personal-best mark of 7.33.
In the women's 600 meters, Blaire Dinsdale led the Huskers with a second-place finish on a personal-best time of 1:32.89. Brooke Dinsdale finished third, notching a personal-best time of 1:33.38, while Ellen Dougherty came in fourth with a personal-best mark of 1:33.67. In the men's 600 meters, Tommy Brinn took the event title with a personal-best time of 1:18.19. His mark on Friday afternoon was a personal best. London Hawk finished third with a time of 1:20.83, while Alney Tobias finished sixth on a time of 1:21.27.
Erica Hamik posted a time of 2:15.02 in the women's 800 meters, finishing fourth. She was followed by Suzanne Higgins who notched a time of 2:23.71. Boglarka Bozzay of Kansas State set a Devaney Center record in the 800 meters with a time of 2:05.16. Sidney Madlock finished fourth in the men's 800 meters, finishing with a personal-best time of 1:53.87. Brett Grieb came in eighth with a personal-best time of 1:56.06.
Tim Thompson and Dexter McKenzie finished first and second, respectively, in the men's 200 meters. Thompson recorded a mark of 21.55, while McKenzie finished with a time of 21.59, tying his personal-best.
Katie White used a personal-best performance in the 3,000 meters to take first place as she notched a time of 9:48.23. Isabel Andrade finished sixth, recording a time of 10:31.84. In the men's 3,000 meters Peter Falcon finished with a season-best time of 8:48.78. Former Husker David Adams won the event with a mark of 7:59.53, qualifying for the USA Indoor Championships.
The Huskers now turn their attention to next weekend's Big Ten Indoor Championships. Hosted in Lincoln at the Devaney Center Indoor Track, the meet starts on Friday at 10 a.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
