Huskers Blow Past Cyclones, 6-0

Lincoln - Reigning Big 12 Pitcher of the Week Ashley DeBuhr tossed a four-hit shutout and sophomore Crystal Carwile belted her second home run of the season as the Nebraska softball team picked up its sixth straight win with a 6-0 victory over Iowa State Monday night at Bowlin Stadium.

DeBuhr (17-6) was masterful in earning her fourth straight win. In a complete-game effort, DeBuhr allowed only four singles while striking out six and walking none.

With DeBuhr in control in the circle, the Husker offense unleashed a nine-hit attack that produced six runs, one shy of the season high. Carwile's third inning solo home run was one of three extra-base hits for Nebraska, marking the first time in 10 games the Huskers had recorded more than two extra-base hits in a game.

Senior Jamie Waldecker continued her hot play of late, finishing 2-for-3 with a game-high two RBIs. Over her last four contests, Waldecker is 7-for-12 with eight RBIs and she has matched her career high with a current six-game hitting streak.

With the win, Nebraska earned its 11th consecutive home victory and 11th straight against a Big 12 Conference foe at Bowlin Stadium. The Huskers are now 33-13 on the season and stand at 6-4 in the league.

Alyssa Ransom (10-13) took the loss for Iowa State (22-23, 1-8 Big 12), allowing six runs (three earned) on nine hits in six innings of work.

Nebraska got the scoring started early with a pair of runs in the top of the first. Freshman Whitney Barrett was hit by a pitch before a throwing error put runners at second and third with no outs. Senior Devin Porter plated Barrett with a sacrifice bunt and sophomore Meghan Mullin came home on an RBI single off the bat of Waldecker.

Carwile's blast down the right field line made it 3-0 Nebraska in the third before the Huskers closed the scoring with three more runs in the fifth. Carwile got that inning started with a one-out single and she scored on an RBI double from Waldecker.

The Huskers then recorded three consecutive hits, with sophomore pinch runner Kimberly Fuller scoring on a single from fellow sophomore Haley Long and Long scoring NU's final run on a single from sophomore Brittany Pascale.

Pascale was one of three Huskers to record a two-hit game, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI. Carwile finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored while Waldecker picked up her third multi-hit game in her last four contests.

Nebraska will look for a series sweep of Iowa State on Thursday, when the Huskers travel to Ames for an afternoon rematch with the Cyclones. First pitch for that contest is set for 3:30 p.m. and live audio will be available on Huskers.com.
