Second-Team All-Big 12
Season Outlook [2007]
Jamie Waldecker returns for her third season as the Huskers’ starting catcher in 2007. Waldecker’s proven production at the plate, along with the opportunity to work with a talented and deep pitching staff, should make the senior’s final season a memorable one.
Waldecker is expected to be a key player in the Huskers’ run for a Big 12 title. She is slated to be a middle-of-the-order hitter where she will be expected to drive in runs. Waldecker will also be counted on to step up as a leader, especially with the pitching staff.
The Huskers boast a talented three-pitcher staff that has the potential to rank as the league’s best. One of Waldecker’s challenges will be to get the staff, which includes a freshman and a sophomore, to perform to its fullest. Waldecker will also be asked to fill a leadership role within the team as one of the Huskers’ most experienced players.
Aside from the intangibles, Nebraska will count on Waldecker to produce offensively. A two-time all-conference selection, Waldecker boasts the most career hits, homers and RBIs of any current Husker. She has also shown a knack for stepping up in big games, as her average in league play has topped her overall season average in each of her first three seasons. In her career, Waldecker’s average in Big 12 games is .033 points higher than her overall average.
The Garden Grove, Calif., native also ranks as one of the top defensive players in the nation. She has thrown out nearly 40 percent of would-be base stealers in her career while committing just 13 errors in 1,095 chances.

Jamie is a masterful receiver behind the dish for the Nebraska pitchers, a piece of artillery when runners try to take a base and an imposing presence when she is doing battle in the box. Watch this warrior passionately and successfully lead us through the 2007 season."
