Julie Geis Memorial Scholarship

The endowed Julie Geis Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a Nebraska softball player who has lived in Nebraska for at least 12 years, owns at least a cumulative 3.0 grade-point average, and demonstrates commitment to serving as a role model on and off the field.

A four-year letterwinner for the Huskers from 1976 to 1979, Julie Geis was a victim of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York City. During the tragedy, Geis was on the 105th floor of the south tower, where she was working during a week-long trip to New York for the downtown Kansas City-based office of Aon Consulting, Inc. A native of Beaver Crossing, Neb., Geis earned a bachelor of science degree in education, a master's degree in educational psychology and a Ph.D. in educational administration. The Nebraska softball team retired Geis' jersey on Oct. 12, 2001.
