Rutherford’s Career Capsule
Darcy Rutherford entered the Husker program as a recruited walk-on and by the time her career was over, she had started 134 games, including every game of her junior and senior seasons. Rutherford posted a .307 career average as a slapper, adding 10 doubles, three triples and 23 RBIs. She posted a .384 career on-base percentage, while scoring 83 runs and stealing 31 bases in only 42 attempts. Her .307 career average was the 16th-best mark in Husker history following her playing career. She also posted a career-best 15-game hitting streak during her junior season. Defensively, Rutherford committed five errors in 117 career chances in the outfield.

Senior Season [2009]
Rutherford set a slew of career highs in her final season. Although her average was down slightly, Rutherford equaled her career high with 53 hits. The Omaha native also posted career-high totals of 38 runs, six doubles, 11 RBIs, 17 walks and 11 stolen bases. Entering her senior season, Rutherford had only produced four doubles, 12 RBIs and 18 walks through her first three seasons combined.

Junior Season [2008]
Rutherford started every game in left field and was named the team’s Offensive MVP ... led NU in average for much of the season before finishing second with a .325 mark ... also ranked second with 11 stolen bases ... was hit by eight pitches - the third-highest total in Nebraska history - and coaxed eight walks to finish with a .385 on-base percentage ... finished with career-high two doubles, a team-high two triples, nine RBIs and 26 runs ... boasted a .471 on-base percentage as the leadoff hitter ... finished with career-best totals of 14 multi-hit games, one multi-RBI contest and a 15-game hitting streak ... got off to a fast start, hitting .380 (35-for-93) in February and March with 14 runs scored ... tied her career high with three hits in a 3-for-3 effort against Idaho State on the first day of the season ... tallied two RBIs in her first two games after recording just three career RBIs in her first two seasons combined ... scored a career-high three runs against South Dakota State ... stole a career-high two bases against Baylor ... hit safely in her 15th straight game after doubling in her final at bat at Texas Tech ... her hitting streak was the longest since All-American Anne Steffan’s school-record 26-game streak in 2005 ... also reached base safely in 30 straight games and 48 of 53 overall ... hit safely in three of the Huskers’ four games at the Big 12 Championship while scoring five runs, including two each against No. 7 Oklahoma and Texas Tech ... hit .333 in 12 road games while driving in three runs ... batted .361 in non-conference action.

Sophomore Season [2007]
After seeing limited action as a freshman, Rutherford split time in left field in 2007, appearing in 36 games, including 26 starts ... finished with four multi-hit games and a .254 average ... hit .308 in six Big 12 starts while reaching base at a .438 clip ... batted .333 with runners on base ... was a .316 hitter (6-for-19) with two outs with all three of her RBIs coming with two outs ... recorded her first career hit, walk, stolen base, extra-base hit and RBI in the first two weeks of the season ... saw more at bats on the first two days of the season than she did her entire freshman campaign ... responded by going 2-for-2 with a walk and a run scored in her first career position start at Hawaii ... recorded her first extra-base hit with a leadoff double against Tennessee Tech ... opened the UNLV Invitational with her first three-hit game, going 3-for-3 with a walk, a run and her first career RBI against Southern Utah ... set a pair of career highs with two walks and two stolen bases against Delaware State.

Freshman Season [2006]
Rutherford saw action in 25 games during her freshman season ... was primarily used as a pinch runner ... was 0-for-3 at the plate and 1-of-2 in stolen bases ... got the first official start of her career against Cal State Northridge when she was penciled in as the designated player while pitcher Ashley DeBuhr hit for herself ... scored four runs on the season ... scored the first run of her career against 15th-ranked Oregon State ... went 0-for-2 against Illinois on Feb. 24 in her first career at bats ... stole the first base of her career against St. John’s.

Before Nebraska
A graduate of Omaha Central, Rutherford is the 16th Husker in school history to hail from Omaha, the state’s largest city ... she led Central to consecutive fourth-place finishes in the state tournament in 2003 and 2004 ... was a two-time Omaha World-Herald first-team Class A all-state selection, as well as a two-time second-team All-Nebraska honoree ... hit .400 with 32 runs scored and 16 stolen bases in her junior season and followed that performance by hitting .447 with 33 runs and 39 stolen bases as a senior ... was also a guard on the basketball team ... off the field, Rutherford was a member of the honor roll.

Personal
The daughter of Ray and Patty Rutherford, Darcy Rae Rutherford was born on May 13, 1987, in Omaha, Neb. Darcy has two sisters, Megan (23) and her twin Ally (21), and one brother, Shane (27). Darcy is majoring in communication studies.
