Nebraska's No. 8 men's gymnastics team celebrated Senior Night with a win over No. 9 Minnesota and No.11 Iowa Saturday night at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
The Huskers earned four event titles and posted the best team score of the year in the win. Nebraska's 354.500 topped Iowa's 351.800 and Minnesota's 348.600.The Huskers also earned 14 career highs in the season finale.
Wyatt Aycock earned a career-high 88.60, which is the highest all-around score of any current Husker. Aycock had five other career highs in the meet -- pommel horse (14.50), rings (14.20), vault (16.00), parallel bars (15.10) and high bar (14.40). Aycock also notched a 14.40 on floor. His vault of 16.00 is the highest score by any Husker on any event this season.
The Huskers started the night out on floor with their highest team score this season (58.50). Sophomore Andreas Hofer led the Husker floor team with a 14.90, paving the way to his second place finish just ahead of teammate Will Eastman's14.80. Iowa sophomore Matt McGrath took home the floor title with a 15.00.
Freshman Eric Schryver notched a career high 15.50 on pommel horse which gave him his third pommel horse title of the season. Five of six Huskers earned career highs on pommel horse Saturday. Those Huskers were junior David Jacobs (14.60), freshman C.J. Schaaf (13.50), Andrew House (14.20), Wyatt Aycock (14.50), and Eric Schryver (15.50). The Huskers 58.80 was an 8.5-point improvment from last week's meet at Ohio State.
On senior night, Anthony Ingrelli tallied a season high 15.40, giving him a fifth event title of the season. Ingrelli's score was just one-tenth shy of his career high 15.50 in 2008. Ingrelli's rings score was the best by any Husker this.
Next the Huskers moved to vault where Aycock tallied the highest Nebraska individual score of the season on any event with a 16.00. With that score, Aycock took second in the individual standings behind Iowa's Matt McGrath (16.20). The Husker team vault score of 63.30 was also the highest team score on any event this season. Redshirt freshman Mark Ringle tallied a career-high on vault with a 15.80.
Aycock also took home the parallel bars event title with his career-high 15.10. Hofer had a season-high 14.50 in his tie with teammate Mark Ringle. Both Ringle (14.50) and Jacobs (14.20) earned career highs on parallel bars Saturday.
On the final event of the night the Huskers moved to high bar, where freshman Micah Christsensen's career-high 14.50 was the highest high bar score of the night for Nebraska.
The Huskers are back in action Saturday, April 2, at 2 p.m. for the MPSF Conference Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo.
