NU Drops Second Straight 1-0 Decision

College Station, Texas - After throwing a five-hit shutout in an eight-inning game one victory, Texas A&M's Megan Gibson used her bat to lift the fourth-ranked Aggies to a doubleheader sweep over the Nebraska softball team with a 1-0 win in game two of a Friday night doubleheader at the Aggie Softball Complex.

Gibson provided the lone run of the game with a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the third inning.

With the pair of losses on Friday, Nebraska (27-13, 3-4 Big 12) was swept in a doubleheader for the first time since 1999. The Huskers had swept nine consecutive doubleheaders, including three last week.

Senior right-hander Ashley DeBuhr, who entered the game on the strength of two consecutive shutouts - including one no-hitter - took the loss and fell to 13-6 on the season. DeBuhr pitched well, allowing only one run on four hits in a complete-game effort, striking out seven while walking only one.

The Husker pitching staff held an A&M offense averaging 5.5 runs per game to only two in the doubleheader, the Aggies' lowest output in back-to-back games this season.

After DeBuhr worked around a pair of leadoff singles in the bottom of the first, the Huskers had runners at second and third with only one out in the top of the second but were unable to score in what proved to be their best opportunity.

Gibson then got to DeBuhr in the third with her home run, but the damage could have been worse, as prior to the blast Sharonda McDonald was thrown out at home attempting to score after a wild pitch.

The home run snapped DeBuhr's season-high scoreless innings streak at 18.0. DeBuhr settled down after the home run, as she did not surrender another hit the rest of the game and faced the minimum over the final 3.1 innings.

Nebraska's best chance to get back into the game came in the top of the fifth when sophomore Haley Long reached on a leadoff single and a two-out hit batter put runners at first and second with two outs. The Huskers were unable to capitalize, however, as sophomore Meghan Mullin grounded out to end the inning.

Scarborough then retired seven of the final eight batters to wrap up her 15th victory of the season. In a four-hit shutout, Scarborough (15-4) struck out nine while not walking a single batter.

After out-hitting the Aggies 5-1 in Friday's first game, the Huskers had more baserunners than Texas A&M in game two, stranding six. Overall, the Huskers out-hit the Aggies 8-5 in the doubleheader.

Nebraska is next in action on Monday, April 9, in a doubleheader against South Dakota State at Bowlin Stadium.
