Myerscough Sets School Mark in Discus

<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Manhattan, Kan. ? Carl Myerscough led the Nebraska track and field team with a school record and nation-leading throw of 213-7 in the discus at the Ward Haylett Invitational in Manhattan, Kan., on Saturday afternoon.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

 

Myerscough took over the top spot in the NCAA this season with his winning toss in the discus and set the school record in the event for the second consecutive meet. He also took second place to former Missouri Tiger Christian Cantwell in the shot put with his throw of 67-5 ?.

 

Senior Ineta Radevica also tied her previous school record in the triple jump, leaping 46-0 ? to increase her NCAA leading margin to a foot and three inches. Authea Chambers finished third behind Radevica in the triple jump with a leap of 41-0 ?.

 

Redshirt freshman Dmitrijs Milkevics was also in the business of setting records on Saturday, posting an R.V. Christian Track record in the 800 meters with a time of 1:48.04. Teammate Aaron Nasers posted his best time of the outdoor season in the 800, crossing the line in 1:50.31 for a seventh-place finish.

 

Senior Ann Gaffigan ran a personal-best time of 4:27.73 and set a track record as well in the 1,500 meters to improve her regional-qualifying mark.

 

Priscilla Lopes set the only new NCAA Regional-qualifying mark of the day, running the 200 meters for the first time this season and recording a time of 23.73 to win the race. The NCAA indoor hurdle champion also took fourth place behind three unattached athletes in the 100-meter hurdles with her 13.41 clocking.

 

The Huskers put together a 3-4-5 finish in the men’s 110-meter hurdles, led by Courtney Jones’ time of 14.03 and followed by Nenad Loncar (14.03) and Richard Davidson Jr. (14.14). Andy Nelson recorded a career-best time in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51.29 for a third-place showing.

 

Becky Breisch completed another double, winning the women’s shot put with a throw of 56-9 ? and the discus with a toss of 202-3. Freshman Kayla Wilkinson took second place in the women’s javelin, throwing it 150-5. In the men’s throw, Issar Yahzbin improved his career-best throw in the hammer with a toss of 204-2 for second place. Arturs Wszelaki took second in the men’s javelin with a throw of 221-4.

 

Senior Na’Tassia Vice won the women’s high jump, clearing 5-10 with only one miss on the day. Ashlee Dickinson was fifth with a height of 5-6.

 

Danute Ceika claimed victory in the women’s 800-meter run in a time of 2:09.87. Dijana Kojic came in behind her in third place in 2:12.92. Maggi Escudero was second in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:01.47.

 

Arturs Abolins won the men’s long jump, leaping 24-11 on his next to final attempt of the competition.

 

Freshman Jenny Green took second place in the pole vault to Andrea Dutoit, the second-ranked women’s pole vaulter in the world in 2004, after clearing 13-5 ?. Dutoit cleared 14-3 ? to win the event. NU’s Christi Lehman was fifth with a height of 12-9 ?, followed by Allissa Koerner in sixth (12-9 ?) and Jessie Graff in seventh (12-3 ?).

 

Senior Brad Teeple took second place in the men’s pole vault, clearing 16-10 ?. Freshman Gable Baldwin was sixth with a height of 15-11.

 

Junior Dusty Stamer won silver in the men’s 100-meter dash, finishing in 10.41. Shelldon Simpson was behind him in fifth place with a time of 10.64. Nate Probasco claimed the fourth spot in the 200 meters in 48.68. Freshman Andrew Pearson came in fifth in the 400 in 48.68.

 

In the Walton Combined Event meet in Columbia, Mo., on Thursday and Friday, Ashley Selig finished as the top collegian in the women’s heptathlon with her score of 5,313 points, finishing fourth overall. Other results from the multi-event meet were not available.

 

The Huskers will take next weekend off before traveling to College Station, Texas, for the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships May 28-29.
