Construction for Memorial Stadium officially began on April 26, 1923, following a groundbreaking ceremony attended by University faculty, staff, and the student body. On October 13, 1923, less than six months after construction began, Nebraska defeated Oklahoma in the first game played at Memorial Stadium. The following week, Memorial Stadium was dedicated prior to kickoff against Kansas on October 20, 1923.
