From 1909 until 1922, the Nebraska Football team hosted their home games at Nebraska Field. Due to increased interest in the sport and the success of the program throughout those years, the University started to fundraise for a new facility. The new stadium would not just be a football field, but a stadium for the state and a memorial for the Nebraskans lost in war.
