DeBuhr Tosses No-Hitter in Huskers' 4-0 Win

Lincoln - Senior right-hander Ashley DeBuhr tossed her third career no-hitter and added 13 strikeouts as the Nebraska softball team completed a doubleheader sweep of Texas Tech with a 4-0 victory in game two in front of 517 fans at Bowlin Stadium on Sunday.

DeBuhr (12-6) allowed just one walk and hit three batters while moving into a tie for second place on the career no-hitter chart at Nebraska. Behind DeBuhr's dominance, Nebraska (26-11, 2-2 Big 12) posted its second straight shutout and fourth in the last five contests.

With a pair of shutout victories on Sunday, the Huskers posted back-to-back shutouts over a Big 12 foe for the first time since 2003 and for the first time in a two-game conference series since 2001.

Sarah Losleben (4-7) took the loss for Texas Tech, which lost its sixth straight game to fall to 17-19 overall and 0-5 in league play.

With another outstanding performance in the circle, NU didn't need much offense, but the Huskers still produced four runs on four hits. Freshman Whitney Barrett capped a terrific week by going 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. In six starts on the week, Barrett went 8-for-21 after entering the week just 3-for-26.

Barrett also played a pivotal role in Sunday's no-hitter, recording an outstanding diving catch on a line drive headed for center field with one out in the top of the sixth.

Just as they did in game one, the Huskers jumped out to a quick lead, with help from a Texas Tech error. Barrett led off the bottom of the first with a single and scored from second on a two-out throwing error. 

Two more runs in the bottom of the fourth gave the Huskers a 3-0 advantage. With the bases loaded and two out, senior Jaime Borg came home when senior Carmen Kier struck out, but reached first on a wild pitch. Barrett then ripped a 1-0 pitch into center field to score senior Devin Porter.

Porter, who finished 0-for-2, reached a milestone of her own in the game, as she was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning. That marked the 18th time Porter had been hit in her career, a new school record.

NU added another run in the fifth to close out the scoring. Sophomore Crystal Carwile was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, moved to second on a passed ball, advanced to third on a ground out and scored on a sacrifice squeeze bunt from fellow sophomore Brittany Pascale.

Nebraska will take its six-game winning streak on the road when the Huskers travel to Lawrence, Kan., for a conference showdown with Kansas on Wednesday, April 4.
