Morgan, Keating Advance at Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas?Sheryl Morgan and Frances Keating each recorded NCAA regional-qualifying performances during Thursday’s Texas Relays to advance to Sunday’s final heat of University 400-meter hurdles competition.

 

Morgan improved her season-best mark in the hurdles to 59.94 while finishing sixth overall during the preliminary heats, just ahead of Keating’s seventh-place time of 1:00.25. Both will take part in Saturday’s final heat, which is slated to begin at 12:15 p.m.

 

Three other Huskers participated in the men’s 400-meter hurdles prelims, but none qualified for Saturday’s final. Andy Nelson paced the NU men with his 10th-place finish in 52.36, while Mark Harrison earned 21st with his time of 53.53. Newcomer Gatis Spunde (28th) recorded a mark of 53.92 in his first race at Nebraska.

The Texas Relays continue Friday with several events featuring NU athletes, including the women’s 100-meter dash (Priscilla Lopes and Diane Dietrich) and hurdles (Lopes and Keating), men’s 100-meter dash (Dusty Stamer), men’s 110-meter hurdles (Richard Davidson Jr., Courtney Jones, Nenad Loncar and Aaron Ross), women’s long jump (Ashley Selig) and women’s high jump (Sara Jane Baker).
