2005: Gatis Spunde (pronounced GAH-tis SPOON-day) enrolled at Nebraska for the second semester in time to compete for the Husker track and field team... finished 11th during the prelims of the 400 meters at the Big 12 Indoor Championships with a personal-best time of 49.04... opened his Husker career with a seventh-place time of 49.10 at the adidas Classic... ran a leg on NU’s 4x400-meter relay that notched an NCAA provisional-qualifying mark of 3:09.45 at the Iowa State Classic... ran on runner-up 4x400-meter relays at the adidas Classic (3:14.94) and Husker Invitational (3:12.23)... finished sixth in the 600 yards at the Iowa State Classic with a career-best clocking of 1:11.42... competed in the 400-meter hurdles outdoors at the Texas Relays (53.92p), while also running on NU’s 4x400-meter relay (3:11.13p)... won Latvian 400-meter hurdles title for the second straight year (52.72). In Latvia: Spunde arrived at Nebraska after winning the 2004 Latvian national championship in the 400-meter hurdles... also claimed the 400-meter hurdle title at the 2004 Baltic Championships in a personal-best 51.31.
