NU Golfers Finish Sixth In Home Tourney

Lincoln -- The Nebraska men's golf team finished sixth in the Fairway Club Invitational Tuesday, with a total score of 897 over 54 holes. The Huskers recorded scores of 297, 296, and 304 over the two-day tournament to finish three strokes ahead of Iowa State. Lamar University took home the championship with a three-round score of 873, led by Shawn Stefani who took home individual honors.

After leading the Huskers on Monday, junior Mike Vanier once again posted impressive results with a 74 on Tuesday for total of 218 to finish in a tie for seventh place. However, Vanier's score did not count in the Husker total as he was competing as an individual. Nebraska junior Jim Troy shot a 72 on the day for a total score of 219 to finish the tournament in ninth place. Junior Blake Humbles who recorded a 70 in his first round Monday, completed the day with a total score of 227 to tie for 28th. Meanwhile, junior Kevin Bryson fired a two-round total of 229 to tie for 33rd. Sophomore Justin Borzych recorded a three-round score of 230 for a 35th-place finish. Junior Chris Hartwig shot three consecutive rounds of 77 to round out the Husker starting five in a tie for 36th.

Other Huskers playing individually included junior J.J. Sullivan and sophomore Jonathan Aten who finished in 31st and 36th place respectively. Junior Andy McCabe tied for 51st with a total score of 239.

The next stop on the Husker schedule is the Rocky Mountain Invitational on October 1-2, in Denver, Colo.
