Senior (2002-03)
Mike Vanier competed as an individual in the Fairway Club Invitational and traveled with the team to the Louisiana Tech Intercollegiate to compete individually. He had a 78.33 scoring average over six rounds. Vanier will use his position as a senior to provide leadership on the squad. He has proven his capability to post some of the lowest scores on the team and will look to prove himself as an asset in spring competition.
Junior (2001-02)
Vanier competed in the Fairway Club Invitational as an individual and finished seventh with a score of 218, the best on the team. However, he injured his knee and was forced to have surgery, cutting his junior year short.
Sophomore (2000-01)
Vanier competed in the Henry Griffits/Baylor Invitational and finished with a three-round score of 219, including a 72 in the second and third rounds. Vanier recorded a scoring average of 77.24 over 21 rounds. His best finish of the season came with rounds of 67 and 69 for a third-place tie at the Branson Creek Invitational.
Freshman (1999-00)
Vanier finished fourth on the team in scoring average for the season with a 76.44. He competed in four tournaments throughout the season. Vanier grabbed a second-place finish at Texas-Pan American, one stroke behind teammate and winner, Rob Arthur. He shot a second-round 66 at the Nelson Invitational which was the lowest single round by any Husker during the 1999-2000 season.
Before Nebraska
Vanier was coached by Dan Wolfe at Lincoln Southeast. Vanier was a member of the 1998 state champion Class A boys golf team, finishing in eighth place as an individual. He was a 1998 class A all-state, all-city and academic all-state selection. He was a member of the National Honor Society and graduated in the top three percent of his class.
Personal
Vanier is the son of Richard and Barbara Vanier, and has a younger sister Lindsay (18)...his major is actuarial science...he was born on Feb. 28, 1980...his hobby is playing cards...his favorite golf course is the Starr Pass Golf Course (Tuscon, Az.)...his favorite golf club is the driver...his favorite golfer is Tiger Woods...favorite professional golf tournament is the U.S. Open.
