2006: Season Outlook
A returning captain, KoKo Tacha (pronounced TAH-ha) will again fill a key leadership role for the Huskers in 2006, while competing for a starting job in the outfield or at designated player. Tacha started a career-high 20 games in 2005, including six starts in right field and 14 starts at designated player.
Tacha collected a career-high 11 hits with two extra-base hits last season, including her second career home run, a game-winning solo shot against Colorado State on Feb. 18. She also drew a career-best five walks while earning more at bats in 2005 than her first two seasons combined.
With two returning All-Big 12-caliber outfielders, Coach Rhonda Revelle is looking for a player to step up and claim the starting job in right field. Tacha's experience gives her a marked advantage over freshman Meghan Mullin, the other top candidate to earn the starting nod.
Driven by a tremendous work ethic both on and off the field, Tacha has made great strides in her first three seasons and is poised to make the most impact of her career in 2006.
2005: Junior Season
Tacha saw the most action of her career in her junior season, starting 20 games and appearing in 18 more ... hit .190, but drew a career-high five walks to post an on-base percentage of .250 ... set career highs of 20 starts, 58 at bats, 11 hits, 15 total bases, five walks, 11 putouts and one assist and tied her career high with one home run ... scored a run in three straight games from March 30 to April 2 ... scored Nebraska's lone run of the series against No. 4 Texas April 2 and 3 ... went 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI against North Dakota State on April 6 ... hit her second career home run, a solo shot against Colorado State on Feb. 18 ... the home run proved to be the game-winning RBI ... added a second game-winning RBI that same weekend with a two-run single in the Huskers’ 14-6 victory over Texas-San Antonio ... tied for fifth on the team with two game-winning RBIs ... her single against Loyola-Chicago on Feb. 19 marked the 10,000th hit in the history of the Nebraska softball program ... was perfect in the field in 12 chances ... hit .278 with five RBIs with runners in scoring position ... hit .525 against left-handed pitchers ... also set career bests in hitting streak and doubles ... hit her first career double against Syracuse on March 20 ... had two multi-hit games and one multi-RBI game ... was a first-team academic All-Big 12 selection for the second straight year.
2004: Sophomore Season
Tacha was one of the Huskers' top pinch-runners and also hit well in pinch-hitting and spot-start situations in 2004 ... played in 42 games, including nine starts and scored 13 runs ... was a first-team academic All-Big 12 selection ... batted .308 (8-for-26) for the season with an on-base percentage of .400 ... recorded her first career extra-base hit with a walk-off grand slam that gave NU a run-rule victory over Centenary on Feb. 20 ... started four games in right, providing depth in the outfield ... was named the Nebraska Softball Student-Athlete of the Year.
2003: Freshman Season
Tacha served as the Huskers' top pinch runner ... saw action in 33 games, scoring 12 runs with a .250 on-base percentage ... scored three runs at the NCAA Regional Tournament, one each against Pacific (May 16), Mississippi State (May 16) and Hofstra (May 17) ... made three plate appearances, notching a single against Cal Poly Feb. 14.
High School
Tacha competed at first base for Coach Lisa Kinderknecht at Manhattan High School ... led Manhattan to fourth place at the Class 6A Kansas state championships in 2002 ... posted a .373 batting average and a .995 fielding percentage as a senior en route to earning second-team all-state honors from the Topeka Capital-Journal ... was a three-time all-league selection ... was named a KQLA/Q - 103.5 FM High School Softball Player of the Week ... played AFA summer ball for Coach Tom Vera and the Manhattan Eliminators ... competed at first and second base and helped lead the Eliminators to a 33-4 record ... was named to the AFA Kansas All-State squad after producing a .507 average and a .791 slugging percentage ... also played volleyball, earning two letters and second-team all-conference honors ... was the valedictorian of her class ... was a member of the National Honor Society ... was named a Governor’s Scholar based on her all-around achievements in high school ... selected as a Kansas Girls State participant and alumni representative ... Tacha’s sister, Rachelle, played golf at Nebraska from 1994 to 1998 and was an All-Big Eight Conference selection in 1996, when she won the Big Eight women’s golf title.
