2005: Season Outlook
Anne Steffan will again be the Huskers' leadoff hitter in 2005 after earning second-team All-Midwest and All-Big 12 honors in 2004.

One of the fastest players in school history, Steffan's speed and bat control present problems for opposing teams. Steffan will again team with junior Jessica Yoachim, who will bat second for the Huskers, to create one of the best 1-2 punches in the nation. Last year, Steffan proved to be one of the toughest outs in the Big 12, reaching base at a .396 clip.

An excellent drag bunter and slap hitter, the Mankato, Minn., native looks to be a triple threat this season after working diligently on her hitting during the offseason.

Steffan has already entered the career top 10 in school history with a .327 career average, 12 hit-by-pitches and 49 career stolen bases.

Her speed is also an asset on defense where Steffan displays great range for any infielder, especially a second baseman. Last season, her range led to 192 chances at second. A solid defender, Steffan commited only 10 errors in those 192 chances for a .950 fielding percentage.

A true competitor, Steffan, one of three senior's on this year's team, is also expected to provide leadership in 2005.

2004: Junior Season
Nebraska's leadoff hitter last season, Steffan put extreme pressure on opposing defenses with her bat control and foot speed ... considered the fastest player on the team, she hit a team-high .356 and stole a team-best 29 bases ... her 74 hits were also a team-high and she led the team with 21 multi-hit games ... was named co-recipient of Nebraska Offensive Player-of-the-Year award ... was named to the All-Big 12 second team, second-team academic All-Big 12 and to the Big 12 All-Tournament team ... was first in the Big 12 with 49 runs scored, sixth in average, third in hits and second in stolen bases ... enjoyed a career-best 4-for-4 game against Utah on March 6 ... defensively, committed only 10 errors in 192 chances at second ... set a career-best with an eight-game hitting streak stretching from March 12-18 ... recorded her 100th career hit against Florida State on March 18 as part of a 3-for-3 day against the No. 4 Seminoles ... had an outstanding tournament at the Florida State Invitational March 12-14, going 12-for-22 (.545) with eight runs scored and six stolen bases.

2003: Sophomore Season
Steffan earned NFCA First-Team All-Midwest Region and first-team All-Big 12 honors after a breakout season ... a slap hitter, Steffan made major improvements over her freshman averages, batting a team-best .362 (160 points higher) and boasting a team-high .413 on-base percentage (166 points higher) ... ranked second in the Big 12 with a .405 average in league games and third overall with a .362 season average ... also ranked third in the conference with a .488 on-base percentage in Big 12 games ... ranked fourth on the team with 27 runs scored ... led Nebraska in April with a .500 average ... had nine multiple-hit games ... was NU's second-most productive player at the plate in February, when she hit .400 (14-35) with eight runs scored ... was one of four Huskers to hit over .400 at the UNLV Classic, going 6-for-14 (.429) with two stolen bases ... defensively, Steffan moved to second base after starting 28 games in right field as a freshman ... started in 53 of 55 games played.

2002: Freshman Season
Steffan played in 51 of Nebraska’s 64 games and earned the starting nod in 37, including 28 in right field, eight as the designated player and one in left field ... started NU’s last 16 games in right field ... hit .202 on the season with 16 runs scored and 10 stolen bases, which ranked fifth on the team ... hit .222 in Big 12 contests ... played her best ball in April, swinging for a .304 average (7-for-23) ... drove in the winning run in Nebraska’s 3-2 win over No. 18 Oregon State Feb. 17 with an RBI single in the top of the fifth ... produced her best weekend of the season April 27-28 at Texas Tech, where she went 4-for-6 (.667) with two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base ... set a softball performance testing record in the individual 40-yard dash with a time of 5.20 seconds.

High School
Steffan was a five-year letterwinner and starter at shortstop for Mankato West High under Coach Don Krusemark ... earned Minnesota Gatorade Player-of-the-Year honors as a senior in 2001 ... was a first-team all-state selection by the St. Paul Pioneer Press and by the Minnesota Coaches Association in 2000 and 2001 ... earned All-Big Nine Conference honors in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001, becoming just the second player in school history to receive the award five years in a row ... posted a .600 career batting average and led the state in hitting three of the four years in which she competed ... led Mankato West to the Big Nine Conference title in 2000 and 2001 ... competed in summer ball for Coach Jerry Maschka and the Mankato Peppers, who compiled a 300-35 record during her tenure ... led her team to a seventh-place finish at the 1997 ASA Nationals, a third-place finish at AFA Nationals in 1998 and a seventh-place finish at the ASA Nationals in 1999 ... was also a three-year letterwinner for the Mankato West girls basketball team, earning honorable-mention all-conference honors in 1999 and 2000 and all-city honors in 1999.

Revelle on Steffan
"Anne is in a position to have a super dynamic finish to an already very good career at Nebraska. One of the most exciting players on the basepaths in the history of the program, Anne is poised to lead this team onto victory while at the same time shattering some school records."
