1986: Senior Season
In her final season as a Husker, Mertins played in 62 games batting .196.  She produced 31 hits, 17 RBIs, five doubles, three triples and two home runs.  Mertins was solid defensively, with a .970 fielding percentage, making 139 putouts and only five errors.  She earned Big Eight All-Academic honors in 1986.

1985: Junior Season
Last spring Mertins went three for seven in post-season play, including a game-tying RBI against Kansas in the NCAA Midwest Regionals.  This past fall she hit .225 with three doubles and six RBI, while posting a .300 slugging percentage. In the 1984 season, she hit a game-winning triple against Oklahoma State to send the Huskers to the College World Series.

1984: Sophomore Season
Hit game-winning triple and scored on throw in the final game of the NCAA Midwest Regionals to send NU to the College World Series.  She hit .184 this past fall and hit .208 last season, racking up 32 hits, two doubles, two triples, two home runs and 12 RBIs.  Mertins produced a .966 fielding percentage in 1984.  She earned second-team All-Big Eight, District V All-Academic and honorable-mention Academic All-American honors for her sophomore season.

1983: Freshman Season
Mertins played first base as a freshman but has also spent some time pitching for the Huskers.  As a freshman, she hit .175 but had a .947 fielding percentage at first base.  She posted a 6-1 record on the mound in the fall with a 0.70 ERA, allowing only four earned runs in over 40 innings.
