2015 Season Highlights

• Appeared in 50 of Nebraska's 58 games

Freshman Season [2014]
Kat Woolman appeared in 52 games as a freshman for Nebraska in 2014, earning 39 starts. A high school infielder, Woolman made the switch to the outfield in her freshman season. She transitioned well enough to earn 36 starts in the outfield, in addition to three starts as the designated player. Woolman started a team-high 31 games in left field, while also starting five contests in right field.

Woolman batted .242 as a freshman with two doubles, three homers and 12 RBIs. She also scored 24 runs, drew nine walks and tied for the team lead with seven sacrifices. Woolman produced four multi-hit games and one multi-RBI effort in 2014. She improved throughout the year, batting .300 during the Big Ten Conference season. All three of Woolman’s home runs came during conference play, as she posted a .500 slugging percentage and 10 RBIs during league play.

Woolman scored a pair of runs as a pinch runner during the opening weekend of the season. She had totaled only three at bats before earning her first career start as the designated player in game two of a doubleheader at Oklahoma State on Feb. 28. Woolman drew a walk and scored a run against the Cowgirls, then produced another walk, a hit and an RBI the next day in a doubleheader split at 13th-ranked Oklahoma. The showing in Oklahoma kickstarted her season, as she went on to start 39 of the final 46 games.

Woolman hit her first career home run as part of a 2-for-3 day in Nebraska’s 3-2 victory over No. 16 Minnesota in game two of a March 23 doubleheader. She homered again one week later, launching a three-run shot to power Nebraska to a run-rule victory at No. 23 Northwestern. Woolman then hit safely in all four games the following week, scoring three runs and driving in a pair in a three-game series victory at Illinois. Woolman produced a career-high three hits as part of a 3-for-3 effort against Northern Iowa on April 9. She hit her third home run of the season against Ohio State on April 19, when she finished 2-for-3 to produce her final multi-hit effort. Woolman then scored a career-high three runs in Nebraska’s victory at Wisconsin in game one of an April 30 doubleheader. In the NCAA Tournament, Woolman singled and scored the first run of Nebraska’s 2-1 elimination-game victory over Kansas. Her efforts helped the Huskers stay alive in the NCAA Columbia (Mo.) Regional, and NU went on to twice defeat No. 15 Missouri the next day to win the regional title.

Off the field, Woolman was named to Nebraska’s 2014 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.

Before Nebraska
Woolman, who originally committed to Arkansas, is one of two Lincoln natives and three Nebraska products in the sophomore class. Woolman starred for four years at Lincoln Pius X High School where she was a teammate of fellow sophomore Rachel Arthur.

Woolman posted a .470 career batting average at Pius with 39 doubles, 20 home runs, 114 runs scored and 50 walks. Woolman produced 128 RBIs in her prep career - then a Class B state record - and finished with one of the 15 best career batting averages in Nebraska high school history regardless of class.

Woolman hit .542 with 47 RBIs, 51 runs scored, 10 home runs, 14 doubles, 24 walks and a 1.229 slugging percentage during a standout senior season when she was named honorary captain of the Lincoln Journal Star Super State team. Woolman also earned first-team Class B all-state honors in 2012 and was honorary captain of that all-state squad. Woolman also garnered first-team All-Nebraska accolades and first-team all-state honors from the Omaha World-Herald after she ended her career with a Class B state championship with the Thunderbolts. Woolman was a second-team Super State pick as a junior and an honorable-mention all-state selection as a sophomore.

Woolman joined fellow sophomore Lotte Sjulin as a participant in the 2013 Nebraska Coaches Association All-Star Game. Woolman and Sjulin both played travel ball for Nebraska Gold, helping the team qualify for the ASA Gold Nationals.

Personal
Kat Woolman was born on Jan. 15, 1995, in Pusan, South Korea. She was adopted by her parents Ed and Vicki Woolman and was raised in Lincoln. Kat has one brother, Peter. Kat is a business administration major, and she earned a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in her first semester. Woolman was also recognized for her work in the community, as she was named to the inaugural Tom Osborne Citizenship Team in 2014.
