Lincoln, Neb. – In a stellar senior day showing, Nebraska leads Rutgers 102-65 at the end of the first day of competition. The Big Red swept six of the nine events with senior Gena Jorgenson leading with two individual wins.
Action began in the 200 medley relay, where a team of Virginia Consiglio, Amelia Riggott, Beatrix Tanko and Natalie Dunaway swam to the fifth-fastest time in school history. The team finished the event in 1:39.46. Following in third was a team of Marissa Laurin, Katy Zboinski, Jazmyn Lunn and Giulia Marchi with a time of 1:44.11.
The Huskers swept the competition in the 500 free with the Big Red taking all top five positions. Jorgenson came in first with a time of 4:42.48, Riley Miklos followed with 4:53.18 and Jazmyn Lunn at third with a time of 5:01.28. Marchi, the senior from Asola, Italy, notched her career best swim in the event with a time of 4:51.47. In fifth was Alaira Hadford with a time of 4:55.07.
In the 200 IM, Laurin highlighted the Huskers’ efforts with a second-place swim with a time of 2:02.56. True freshman Sophie Kissuk took third (2:03.01) and Jenna Gogel ended in fourth (2:06.79).
After the break, Zboinski nearly swam her way to a career-high performance in the 200 breast. The sophomore from Sparks, Nev., finished in 2:14.92 to secure a second-place finish.
Jorgenson and Consiglio controlled the 200 backstroke for Nebraska. The senior from Aberdeen, S.D., now holds the third-fastest time in NU school history with a first-place time of 1:57.13. Consiglio followed in second with a time of 1:57.22 and remains the school record holder after her swim at the 2025 Hawkeye Invite.
Tanko, the junior from Budapest, Hungary, brought a gold medal finish in the 100 free with her 48.87 swim. Marchi followed in third (50.34), Miklos in fourth (50.88) and Dunaway in fifth (51.55).
In the last individual competition of the day, Zanin won the 200 fly in 1:59.61 and Lunn followed in fourth with a 2:01.20.
To conclude the swimming efforts of senior day, a relay team of Marchi, Dunaway, Miklos and Tanko grabbed a 1:31.44 to accumulate the ninth win of the day.
The three-meter dive competition gave Nebraska an upper hand as Abby Baxter reeled in a second-place finish with a score of 338.70. Senior Kelsey Clairmont came in at fifth place, notching 282.90 points.
Nebraska and Rutgers will continue with events Saturday, Jan. 31, at 10 a.m. (CT) with a one-meter dive and the rest of the swim events.
