Lincoln, Neb. – The Red team scored two runs in the opening frame and never looked back in a 7-1 win over the White team in Game 2 of the Red-White Series at Hawks Field on Monday evening. The two teams tied, 5-5, in Game 1 on Wednesday.
In the top of the first, Joe Acker hit a leadoff single for the Red squad before Cam Chick reached on an error. A fielder's choice put runners on first and second with one out before Luke Roskam delivered an RBI single. Ty Roseberry's sacrifice bunt added another run for the Red.
After a scoreless second inning for both teams, the White team plated one run in the bottom of the third to trim the deficit to 2-1. Newcomer Aaron Dolney laced a leadoff double and later scored on Sayer Diederich's sacrifice fly during the inning.
The two teams held each other scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings before Red scored in each of the subsequent three innings. After plating one run in the sixth, Red added two in the seventh and two in the eighth.
In the sixth, Roskam drew a leadoff walk before Shay Schanaman singled. Drew Gilin also drew a walk before Drew Mackie's sacrifice fly brought in Roskam.
In the top of the seventh, each of the first three Red batters drew walks to load the bases. Aaron Palensky drove in one run with an RBI single. Roseberry also notched an RBI with his base hit during the frame.
Each of the first two Red batters walked to open the eighth inning before Carter Cross bunted to advanced the runners. Acker produced an RBI single, as Gilin and Mackie each scored.
The Red team saw pitching appearances from Max Schreiber (3.0 innings), Caleb Feekin (2.0), Tyler Martin (1.0), Chad Luensmann (2.0) and Schanaman (1.0). The White team threw Colby Gomes (3.0), Diederich (2.0), Ethan Bradford (1.0), Quinn Mason (1.0), Keegan Watson (1.0) and Trey Kissack (1.0).
The Huskers conclude their fall season on Saturday when they host Kansas at Hawks Field. The 12-inning exhibition game will begin at 1:05 p.m. (CT).
