2019: Chad Luensmann (pronounced LYNNZ-man) made 11 appearances on the mound, including three starts, as he returned from Tommy John surgery • Went 1-2 with an 8.83 ERA in 17.1 innings and racked up 16 strikeouts • Served as NU’s opening day starter, going 3.0 innings at UC Riverside on Feb. 15 • Tallied four strikeouts in a season-high 4.1-inning effort against No. 7 Oregon State on Feb. 22 • Earned the win in Nebraska’s victory over No. 3 Texas Tech when he came out of the bullpen for 3.0 no-hit scoreless innings and recorded four strikeouts • Didn’t allow a run in three appearances during Big Ten play, including 1.0-inning outings against Iowa and Michigan.

2018: Luensmann missed the entire 2018 season after having Tommy John surgery during the winter.

2017: Luensmann earned eight saves, the second-most on the team behind Luis Alvarado (10) • Made 27 appearances out of the bullpen for a total of 43.1 innings • Went 3-4 with a 3.74 ERA • Had 33 strikeouts and 21 walks • Earned a save in his season debut, going 3.0 scoreless innings against UC Riverside on Feb. 17 • Picked up his first win of the season on Feb. 26, going 3.1 scoreless innings against Utah • Struck out four Wildcats in 4.0 scoreless innings to earn the save against Arizona on March 5 • Didn’t allow a hit in 2.1 innings at Omaha on April 5 • Threw 1.2 hitless innings to earn a save in Nebraska’s series-clinching win over Minnesota on April 23 • Made three appearances against Michigan State, earning a save in the series finale on May 14 • Managed 2.1 scoreless innings against Maryland at the Big Ten Tournament on May 26.

2016: Luensmann was an immediate contributor to the Husker pitching staff in 2016 as a true freshman, serving as the team’s closer • Luensmann became the first Husker baseball player to be named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and was named a freshman All-American by five organizations, including Collegiate Baseball, Baseball America, Perfect Game, D1Baseball and the NCBWA • Was also a second-team All-Big Ten selection and a unanimous Big Ten All-Freshman pick • Finished the year with 13 saves in 14 chances, setting a freshman record at Nebraska • Tied for third on NU’s single-season saves list and was three saves shy of Brett Jensen’s single-season record of 16 saves set in 2005 • Saved nine games during Big Ten play, which led the league • Finished the year tied for 14th nationally in saves and tied Long Beach State’s Chris Rivera for the most saves in the country by a freshman • Posted a 1.18 ERA in 38.0 innings over 28 appearances • Allowed just three extra-base hits all season and held opposing hitters to a .171 batting average • Started his Husker career by not allowing an earned run in 15.1 innings over his first nine appearances • Allowed just five earned runs all year and never allowed multiple earned runs in an appearance • Allowed three hits in an appearance just once, when he tossed a season-high 4.0 shutout innings at Long Beach State on March 5.

Before Nebraska: Luensmann was drafted by the New York Mets in the 39th round of the 2015 MLB Draft, but turned down pro baseball to become a Husker • Joined the Huskers from Bellwood-Antis High School in Altoona, Pa. • Tabbed the No. 120 right-handed pitcher in the country and the No. 2 right-handed pitcher in the state of Pennsylvania by Perfect Game • Was 8-2 as a senior with a 0.85 ERA in 57.2 innings • Struck out 60 and walked just 13, while holding opposing hitters to a .146 batting average • Earned honorable-mention All-America honors from Perfect Game in 2015 and was an All-Atlantic region first-team pick • Was a 2014 underclass honorable-mention All-American by Perfect Game • Named to the all-tournament team at the 2014 Perfect Game WWBA World Championships in Jupiter, Fla. • Competed at the 2014 Area Code Games in Long Beach, Calif.

Personal: Born on Feb. 4, 1997 • Parents are Kevin and Elaine Luensmann • Has one sister, Abby, and two brothers, Travis and Jack • Majored in mechanical engineering and earned his bachelor's degree from Nebraska in December 2019 • First Husker baseball player from Pennsylvania since 1983 when Dave Bailor (Connellsville, Pa.) was a senior.
