Waldron Doubles Twice in White Victory

Lincoln – Behind a pair of doubles from freshman Mike Waldron, the White squad posted a 2-0 victory to take game one of the three-game Red-White Series. The Red team has the bases loaded with one out in the final inning, but Ben Miller got a 6-4-3 double play to earn the save.

The teams were held scoreless through the first three innings of the six-inning game before Waldron delivered a double in the top of the fourth. Miller started the frame with a single and two batters later Jake Placzek notched a one-out single to put two runners on. Reece Eddins got Ben Klenke to ground out, but the White team had two runners in scoring position for Waldron. The Omaha Westside product laced a two-RBI double into the left-field corner to give the White team a 2-0 lead.

The White squad was in position to score again in the fifth when Miller delivered a two-out double and Jesse Wilkening followed with a single, but Eddins ended the threat when Plazcek popped up to Taylor Fish in foul territory.

The Reds tried to answer in the bottom of the fifth when it had a pair of runners on with one out. Jeff Chesnut shutdown the inning by striking out Jake Meyers and getting Ryan Boldt to fly out to centerfield.

The Reds put together a scoring opportunity again in the sixth when Alvarado started the frame with a walk. Following a fly out, Angelo Altavilla and Brady Childs each worked walks off of Miller to load the bases with one out. Miller dug in and got Cole Klemke to ground into a game-ending 6-4-3 double play.

Game two of the series is scheduled for tomorrow, while game three is set for Thursday, and both games are at 6 p.m.
