Seward, Neb. - The Nebraska track and field team stayed close to Lincoln on Saturday as they traveled to Seward, Neb., for the Concordia Invitational at Bulldog Stadium. The Huskers pulled in 13 victories on the day, including sweeps of the long jump and high jump.
Audrey Svane and Tara Korshoj combined to sweep the women's jumps, with Korshoj taking both horizontal titles with a pair of personal-best jumps. Svane cleared two more inches than then the rest of the field with a season-best leap of 5-8 in the high jump while Korshoj posted a long jump mark of 19-4 ¼ and a leap of 41-10 ¾ in the triple jump.
The men's team then finished a sweep of the high and long jumps with wins by Paul Hamilton and Bobby Carter. First, Hamilton cleared 7-0 ¼ in the high jump to beat out teammate Brandon Sheppard, who cleared 6-9. Carter then held off Hasting's Ronnie Tayler in the long jump by one-quarter inch, 24-5 ¾ to 24-5 ½.
On the track, the NU women pulled a sweep of the 800 and 1,500 meters as Ashley Miller won the 800 in 2:11.62, while Blaire Dinsdale led a 1-2-3 finish for NU in the 1,500 with a time of 4:35.30. Erica Hamik was next at 4:38.91 and Katie White was third in 4:38.91. The 4x100-meter relay of Karyn LaCour, Mara Weekes, Alyssa Vierregger and Arna Erega took first in a time of 47.08.
The men added two wins on the track with in the 400 hurdles and 3,000-meter steeplechase. Freshman Miles Ukaoma broke his previous best of 53.61 in the 400 hurdles with a time of 52.62 and David Adams nearly broke nine minutes in the steeplechase at 9:00.23.
The Huskers will be back on the road next week for the Kansas Relays in Lawrence, Kan. The meet starts on Wednesday, April 20 and runs through Saturday, April 23. Check Huskers.com for more information.
