Paul Hamilton earned his first two All-America honors in 2010 and he also
swept the Big 12 high jump titles... cleared seven feet or higher at six of his
eight meets... opened the indoor season with a provisional-qualifying leap of
7-0 1/4 at the Holiday Inn Invitational... improved his national standing by
two inches with a jump of 7-3 1/4 at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational...
won his first career indoor Big 12 title at a personal-best leap of 7-5, which
also automatically qualified him for the national meet... cleared 7-4 1/2 at
the NCAA Indoor Championships to place third... jumped no less than 7-0 1/4 at
all eight of his outdoor meets... opened with a mark of 7-2 1/2 at the Jim
Click Shootout... won his second straight Big 12 outdoor title in Columbia, Mo.,
with a jump of 7-1 3/4... advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Championships after
jumping 7-1 at the NCAA West Regional... cleared 7-3 3-4 at the national meet
to take third place and earn All-America honors... competed at the USA
Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, and placed fourth with a jump of 7-3 3/4...
went on to compete for Team USA at the NACAC Under-23 Championships where he
cleared 7-3 3/4 to win the high jump over Ole Miss' Ricky Robertson, who
was also a member of Team USA.
2009 (Sophomore)
Hamilton topped the NCAA provisional-qualifying standard 7-0 1/4 at the
first meet of the indoor season with a jump of 7-1 1/2... posted back-to-back
wins at the Conference Challenge and adidas Classic with clearances of 6-10 1/4
and 7-0 1/4, respectively... set a then-personal best at the Frank Sevigne
Invitational with a leap of 7-2 1/2... took the bar up even higher the
following week at the Tyson Invitational with an NCAA automatic-qualifying jump
of 7-4 1/4... tied for sixth at the Big 12 Indoor Championships with a jump of
6-10 3/4... suffered a foot injury at the conference meet and was unable to
clear the opening height at the NCAA Indoor Championships... started the
outdoor season with a jump of 6-10 3/4 at the Jim Click Shootout... cleared at
least 7-0 1/2 at four consecutive meets, including the Triton Invitational (7-0
1/2), Nebraska Quad (7-0 1/2), Concordia Twilight (7-2 1/2) and Big 12
Outdoor Championships (7-2 1/2)... became the second straight Husker to earn
the outdoor conference title in Lubbock, Texas, after Dusty Jonas won his
first Big 12 a year earlier in Boulder, Colo... earned an automatic bid to
the NCAA Outdoor Championships with a fourth-place jump of 6-11 3/4 at the NCAA
Midwest Regional... missed All-America honors by one spot at the national meet
with a clearance of 7-0 1/4... finished 10th overall and ninth among American
jumpers.
2008 (Freshman)
Hamilton produced an impressive freshman season that included top-four
finishes at both conference championships as well as trips to the NCAA Indoor
and Outdoor Championships... won his first collegiate meet with an indoor
then-personal-best jump of 7-2 1/4 at the Holiday Inn Invitational... placed
runner-up the next two weeks at the Conference Challenge (6-11 1/2) and Frank
Sevigne Husker Invitational (6-10 1/4)... took fourth at the Big 12 Indoor
Championships by clearing 6-11 3/4... ended the indoor season as the No. 12
jumper in Division I with a leap of 6-10 1/4 at the NCAA Indoor
Championships... cleared 6-10 3/4 at the first three meets of the outdoor
season... jumped a then-personal best of 7-3A at the Big 12 Outdoor
Championships to finish third... tied for fifth at the NCAA Midwest Regional
with a jump of 7-1... earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Outdoor Championships
where he tied for 20th with a jump of 6-8 3/4.
Before Nebraska (Sidney HS)
Hamilton claimed the Nebraska Class B state high jump championship his
final three years for Sidney High School under Coach John Ganser... tied the
Class B state meet record of former Husker Kyle Odvody by clearing 7-0 at the
2007 state meet... tied for the All-Class gold medals with high jump wins in
2005 (6-8) and 2006 (6-10)... became the 12th Nebraska prep to scale the 7-0
barrier with his win at the Alliance Invitational on April 14, 2007... cleared
an indoor prep best of 6-9 at the 2007 Dan Lennon Invitational in Vermillion,
S.D.
