Huskers Drop Home Match to UTEP

The Nebraska rifle team was defeated at the NU Rifle Range on Saturday by UTEP, 4,617-4,582. The Huskers fired a score of 2,261 in smallbore and 2,321 in air rifle.

"Today wasn't the best," Head Coach Morgan Hicks said. "We started off well in smallbore and air rifle, but just couldn't finish our matches strong."

The Huskers were led by senior Ryann McGough on Saturday, who shot her way to a combined score of 1,149. McGough's air rifle score of 585 led the Huskers and was the second-best score in that discipline of the day. Janine Dutton followed close behind with a score of 1,145 that included the team's second-highest air rifle score of 581.

Nebraska's top smallbore shooter was Katelyn Woltersdorf, who fired an excellent score of 578 to both lead the Huskers and the meet. Unfortunately, Woltersdorf was shooting as an individual and her score did not count toward Nebraska's team total.

"The girls have been working hard this week on staying focused and in control," Hicks said. "I felt like we took a step in the right direction today.  I hope we are able to continue moving forward and trying our hardest to gain more experience with each match."

The Huskers are now 3-8 on the season. Tomorrow marks their final home match of the season. Nebraska will challenge TCU at the Nebraska Rifle Range at 8 a.m.
