Nebraska Falls to Utah

Salt Lake City, Utah – The No. 11 Nebraska women’s gymnastics team fell to ninth-ranked Utah, 196.575-195.725 Friday night at the Huntsman Center. In front of a crowd of 14,726 fans, the Huskers dropped to 13-3 on the year.

The Huskers hit a 49.00 or better on vault and floor and led Utah heading into the final rotation. Maria Scaffidi totaled an all-around score of 39.075, and Brittany Skinner received a 38.875 in her second all-around competition.

Nebraska opened the meet on bars, where Kathryn Howard led the Huskers with a score of 9.825 and tied for third in the event. Lora Evenstad and Skinner each posted marks of 9.80. Skinner’s score was a career high for her. Brittnee Habbib and Kassandra Nathe both notched 9.75, which brought NU to an event score of 48.925, behind Utah’s first-rotation vault total of 49.30.

The Huskers moved to vault in the second rotation as Erin Davis posted a team-high score of 9.925 to take second in the event. Scaffidi tied her career-high score of 9.85, and Skinner added the same score for Nebraska. Maddie Steinauer posted a 9.825, while Evenstad hit a 9.80. NU wrapped up vault with a 49.25 and a running score of 98.175 behind Utah’s lead at 98.30.

Nebraska bounced back to take the lead in its third rotation on floor. Evenstad tied her career-high score of 9.925 and tied for second in the event. Davis added a mark of 9.875, and Habbib hit a 9.85. Steinauer added a 9.775, while Scaffidi posted a 9.675. NU finished floor with a 49.10 and a running score of 147.25 to the Utes’ 147.15 heading into the final event.

The Huskers capped the evening on beam, where Scaffidi hit a 9.825 to come in second, and Habbib notched a 9.80 and tied for third-place. Steinauer received a mark of 9.725, while Skinner posted a 9.675. Nebraska was forced to count a fall with Nathe’s score of 9.425. NU finished with an event score of 48.45 and a final team total of 195.725.

Nebraska returns to action for its final regular season meet next Sunday, March 14 with Iowa State. The Huskers will honor seniors Kathryn Howard and Kylie Stone. Competition is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at the Devaney Center.
