2013 • Senior Season
Kassandra Nathe (pronounced NAY-thee) battled back from season-ending injuries in both 2011 and 2012 to rejoin the lineup in her last season at Nebraska. A steady two-event specialist for the Big Red, Nathe did not miss a meet in 2013 on beam. She took home the beam title against Arizona on Feb. 16, posting a meet-best 9.85.
Nathe also became one of Nebraska’s most consistent competitors on bars and served as the anchor in NU’s lineup late in the season. She earned a career-high 9.90 at NU’s conference championship meet, snagging a tie for second on the event and All-Big Ten Championship Team honors. Nathe closed out 2013 on the competition floor at the NCAA Morgantown Regional, earning one of Nebraska’s highest scores on bars at 9.80.
A stellar academic performer throughout her Nebraska career, Nathe capped her work by earning academic All-Big Ten laurels following the regular season.
2012 • Redshirt Junior Season
Nathe did not see competition during 2012 due to lingering injury. She is expected to return to the Nebraska lineups in 2013, vying to regain her spot as an all-arounder and three-event specialist.
Nathe did continue her outstanding career in the classroom for the Huskers, earning individual NACGC/W Scholastic All-America honors.
2011 • Junior Season
Nathe was unable to compete in 2011 due to an injury. In the classroom, Nathe continued to perform at a high level, earning spots on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters. Nathe is also a leader for the Huskers in the community and claimed a prestigious Nebraska Student-Athlete HERO Leadership Award in 2011.
2010 • Sophomore Season
Nathe claimed second-team All-America honors on bars at the 2010 NCAA Championships. In her second year as a Husker, she tallied a career-high 9.85 on bars and 9.875 on beam, en route to posting two individual event titles.
She improved her season-best score on bars to 9.825 against Minnesota and Illinois. Nathe competed on beam for the first time all season against Michigan, earning a score of 9.725. She hit a career-high 9.875 on beam on Feb. 5 against Oklahoma and TWU. Nathe posted a season-high 9.85 on bars at the IGI Chicago Style Invite. The score put her in a tie for first on the event. She then earned a piece of the beam crown against Iowa State by posting a 9.85. Nathe tied her career high with a 9.85 on bars at Penn State.
She tied for second on beam (9.875) at the 2010 Big 12 Championship, notching a spot on the All-Big 12 Championship Team.
Nathe was also a standout in the classroom, earning first-team academic All-Big 12 recognition, while also claiming a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner's Spring Honor Roll.
2009 • Freshman Season
Nathe provided a spark to the Husker lineup, competing as an all-arounder in every competition in 2009. She placed ninth in the all-around (38.85), 15th on vault (9.825) and 11th on bars (9.80) at the 2009 NCAA Southeast Regional on April 4. At the Big 12 Championships, Nathe hit a career-high 9.85 on vault to take third and was named to the All-Big 12 Championship team for her performance in the conference meet.
Nathe debuted strong for NU, taking second in the all-around for the second straight competition at Iowa State (39.00). She posted a season-leading 39.175 in the all-around against Utah. In the last few weeks of the season, Nathe consistently tied or hit season highs in every event. She posted a career high on floor (9.825) against Iowa State on March 8, tied her season high on bars (9.825) at Arizona State on March 13 and tied another season high on beam (9.80) at UCLA. She also took third in the all-around (39.10) against the Bruins on March 15.
Before Nebraska
Nathe competed for Coach Mike Hunger at Twin City Twisters. A Level 10 gymnast, she was a four-time Junior Olympic qualifier from 2005 to 2008. At the 2008 Junior Olympic National Championships, Nathe tied for 13th on floor and 15th in the all-around, while also taking 19th on beam. Nathe was the 2007 Region IV all-around and beam champion and took first in beam at regionals in 2006. In addition, she finished 15th on beam in 2006 and 13th on vault in 2005 at the J.O. National Championships.
A 2008 graduate of Sartell High School, she lettered in cross country and track and was a member of two state championship track teams in 2005 and 2006. Nathe chose Nebraska over offers from Iowa State and Utah State.
Personal
Kassandra was born Jan. 5, 1990, in Sartell, Minn. and is the daughter of Ken and Doris Nathe. She has one brother, Kent. She is a graduate student at Nebraska and is seeking her degree in family financial planning.
