2010 • Senior Season
Howard returned to the Husker lineup in 2010 bringing considerable experience and clutch performances over her time as a Husker. She earned the first All-America honors of her career at the 2010 NCAA Championships after posting a 9.85 on bars. Howard tallied five beam titles over the course of the season, as she posted a season-high 9.875 on beam two times in 2010 and hit a career-high 9.85 on bars against Iowa State.

Howard posted a 9.85 on beam against Washington to tie teammates Kylie Stone and Brittnee Habbib for the event title. She earned her second beam title in a row with a 9.85 against Minnesota and Illinois. Howard also hit a season-high 9.775 on bars against Michigan on Jan. 24. She took second on beam (9.775) against Missouri on January 30 and tied her season-high on the event (9.85) against Oklahoma and TWU. She shared the beam title at the IGI Chicago Style Invite, tying her season-high for the fourth time (9.85). Howard then hit a new season high on beam at the Sweetheart Invite (9.875). She won another beam title at the Masters Classic, scoring a 9.85. She tallied a season-high 9.85 on bars at Utah on March 5.  In her senior day performance against Iowa State, Howard tied her career-high score on bars (9.85) while also tying for second in the event. In addition, she posted a 9.825 on beam to take third. She added another beam title to her list of accomplishments at Penn State, hitting a season-high-tying 9.875.

Howard tied for fourth on beam at the NCAA Lexington Regional with a score of 9.80. She also hit a 9.825 on bars.  She was continually ranked in the top-20 on beam throughout the season. In addition to her leadership in the gym, Howard was also a leader for the Huskers in the classroom. She earned First-Team Academic All-Big 12 honors, making her a three-time honoree. She was also named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Fall and Spring Honor Rolls.

2009 • Junior Season
Junior Kathryn Howard opened the season as a strong competitor on beam for the Huskers. An All-Big 12 performer on the event as a freshman, she opened the 2008 season with a 9.85 on beam at Denver. She took second on beam against Penn State, scoring a 9.80. Howard posted a career-high 9.85 on bars against Iowa State on March 8 to tie teammate Kylie Stone for the event crown. At the 2009 Big 12 Championships, she added a 9.80 for fifth on beam. She placed ninth on beam at the 2009 NCAA Southeast Regional (9.80). Howard was named first-team academic All-Big 12 for the second time in her career in 2009.

2008 • Sophomore Season
Kathryn Howard stepped up to fill spots in Nebraska's injury-challenged lineups, competing on bars, beam and floor in her second year. An All-Big 12 performer on beam as a freshman, she won her first career event title with a season-high 9.875 on beam at Oklahoma at Feb. 1. At the Big 12 Championships, Howard appeared on two events and scored a 9.60 on bars.


 

2007 • Freshman Season
Howard, a beam specialist who earned All-Big 12 honors at the 2007 Big 12 Championships, joined the Huskers at the end of the fall semester after graduating from Keystone National High School a semester early. Howard immediately jumped into the Nebraska beam lineup at the Super Six Challenge in Fayetteville, Ark., where she posted a 9.125, to make her collegiate debut. Two weeks later at Iowa State, Howard was solid on beam for NU, placing seventh with a 9.775. In the Huskers’ final road meet of the month, Howard notched a leadoff 9.875 to finish second and solidify her place in the Nebraska lineup.

 

At the Michigan-Illinois triangular, Howard was Nebraska’s highest-scoring performer on beam, where her 9.80 earned second-place honors. For the next five meets, the specialist scored no less than a 9.775 on her one event: 9.80 at NC State, 9.775 at the Masters Classic, 9.825 against Utah and Iowa State and a 9.80 at LSU. In the Huskers’ final home meet against Kentucky, Howard tied for fourth (9.825) with teammate Kylie Stone.

 

Howard finished third on beam at the Big 12 Championships with a 9.875 to earn All-Big 12 honors. She took fourth on beam (9.85) at the NCAA West Regional and tied for 16th (9.825) in the NCAA afternoon preliminary session, helping Nebraska to its ninth Super Six Finals appearance. In team finals the following night, Howard unleashed a career-high 9.90 to land in a five-way tie for fourth.

 

Before Nebraska
A Level 10 competitor, Howard competed for coach Terry Walker at Cypress Gymnastics in Houston, Texas. She captured the Texas State beam title in 2006 with a 9.80, while also finishing third on bars (9.55) and fourth in the all-around with a season-high 38.30. At the 2006 Kurt Thomas Invitational, Howard also finished first on beam (9.625), while her 9.45 on beam also earned her first-place honors at the 2006 National Elite Qualifier.

 

Personal
Howard is the daughter of Vance and Karen Howard. A 2006 graduate of Keystone National High School, she was an outstanding student who achieved a 4.0 grade-point average all four years. Howard, who is an advertising major at Nebraska, has one brother, Jake, and one sister, Sarah.
