2012 • Senior Season
Lora Evenstad was one of the most consistent Huskers during her senior year, competing on vault, bars and floor for NU. One of the top performers in the Big Ten Conference, Evenstad earned Big Ten Conference titles on bars and floor, where she posted a 9.925 and 9.90 on the events, respectively, at the conference meet. Evenstad was a first-team All-Big Ten selection and was part of the All-Big Ten Championship team on the same two events.
Evenstad matched or set career highs on bars (9.925), beam (9.875), floor (9.925) and in the all-around (39.475) during her senior season. The Grand Forks, N.D., native began the year competing in the all-around, posting her career high in the opening meet against Denver on Jan. 13. In the next meet against Iowa State on Jan. 20, she won the all-around title with a 39.45, which helped her earn Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honors.
To go along with her all-around title, Evenstad also won nine individual titles throughout the season, including five bars and four floor crowns. Evenstad was also a standout in the classroom, earning Academic All-Big Ten honors.
2011 • Junior Season
Lora Evenstad proved herself as one of Nebraska's top performers for the third consecutive year. She became a two-time All-American in 2011, earning first-team accolades on floor after tallying a 9.90 (third place) on the event. Evenstad came in 11th at the NCAA Championship Event Finals on floor. She claimed the first regional crown of her career at the NCAA Corvallis Regional, where she posted a 9.90 on floor to tie for first place.
Evenstad claimed 10 individual titles in 2011, including nine on floor and one on bars. She notched All-Big 12 honors on vault and floor and was named to the All-Big 12 Championship Team for her accomplishments on bars (9.85 - second place) and floor (9.875 - third place) at the Big 12 Championships. She posted career-high scores of 9.95 on vault, 9.925 on bars, 9.725 on beam, 9.925 on floor and 39.275 in the all-around in her junior season. She made her all-around debut at the Metroplex Challenge and was named the Big 12 Gymnast of the Week for her efforts on Feb. 1.
Evenstad also continued to excel in the classroom, capturing first-team academic All-Big 12 honors for the second-straight year, while earning spots on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters.
2010 • Sophomore Season
Evenstad claimed first-team All-America accolades on vault at the 2010 NCAA Championships, after capturing Big 12 individual titles on both vault and floor exercise as a sophomore.
She opened the season by taking second on bars and vault at Washington with a 9.825 on each event. She continued her solid night with a 9.85 on floor. She tied her season highs on vault (9.85), bars (9.825) and floor (9.85) against Minnesota and Illinois on Jan. 15. She posted a season-high 9.875 on bars against Michigan, while also hitting a season-high 9.90 on floor. Her score on floor earned her a tie for first in the event with teammate Erin Davis. Evenstad took second on bars (9.775) and on floor (9.80) as the Huskers took on Missouri on Jan. 30 and tied her season-high floor score (9.90) on Feb. 5 against Oklahoma and TWU. She earned first on floor at the IGI Chicago Style Invite, matching her season-best score (9.90) for the third time. At the Sweetheart Invite, Evenstad took the floor crown and tied her season-high mark of 9.90 for the fourth time. She tied for the vault crown at the Masters Classic (9.85) and won the floor title (9.90). She tied her career-high score of 9.925 on floor at Utah to also tie for second in the event. Evenstad took first on floor against Iowa State, posting a mark of 9.875.
She earned her first Big 12 crowns on March 27, tying for first on vault (9.90) and floor (9.90). Evenstad was named to the All-Big 12 Championship Team for both events and was also named All-Big 12 on floor. She produced her ninth score of 9.90 or higher on floor at the NCAA Lexington Regional, tying for third in the event. Evenstad then hit a 9.90 on vault to earn All-America honors at the 2010 NCAA Championships.
She notched season-high scores of 9.90 on vault, 9.875 on bars and 9.925 on floor, as she eventually tallied eight individual titles on the season. Evenstad hit nine scores of 9.90 or better on floor during her sophomore campaign.
Outside the gym, Evenstad earned first-team academic All-Big 12 recognition and claimed spots on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll in the fall and spring semesters.
2009 • Freshman Season
Evenstad opened her Husker career in strong fashion as a contributor on floor, vault and bars for Nebraska. At the Big 12 Championships in Ames, Iowa, Evenstad was named the 2009 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and earned a spot on the All-Big 12 Championship Team after finishing second on floor (9.90). She added a seventh-place finish on floor (9.85) at the 2009 NCAA Southeast Regional.
She made her Devaney Center debut with a 9.90 on floor and a third-place finish to help the Huskers defeat Penn State on Jan. 30. Evenstad shined in the meet against Iowa State on March 8, taking event crowns on vault (9.875) and floor (9.925), with each marking then-career-highs. She was named Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week on March 10 for her efforts against the Cyclones. In addition, she tallied a season-high 9.875 on bars against UCLA on March 15.
Before Nebraska
Evenstad competed for Coach James Bayer at Red River Valley Gymnastics Club in Grand Forks, N.D. A Level 10 gymnast, she swept every individual title at the North Dakota State Championships for four straight years from 2003 to 2006, and took first in the all-around, vault and bars at the 2006 Junior Olympic Region IV Championships. At Nationals in 2005, Evenstad finished third on floor, then placed sixth on bars and ninth in the all-around at the same meet in 2006. At the 2008 Junior Olympic National Championships, she claimed the all-around title. In addition to winning her first all-around crown, Evenstad placed third on vault and floor and tied for eighth on bars and beam.
A 2008 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in East Grand Forks, Minn., she was a member of the honor roll, National Honor Society and the dance team.Evenstad chose Nebraska over offers from Utah and Michigan.
Personal
Lora Evenstad was born Dec. 2, 1989 in Grand Forks, N.D., and is the daughter of Dean and Vicky Evenstad. She has one brother, Ryan. Lora earned her bachelor's degree in May 2013 after majoring in dietetics/nutrition, exercise and health sciences at Nebraska. She is a two-time first-team academic All-Big 12 selection and a six-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll. She earned four spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll.
