Raleigh, N.C. - The No. 10 Nebraska women's gymnastics team posted a 195.00 to take second in the Sweetheart Invite with No. 25 N.C. State and North Carolina Saturday night at Reynolds Coliseum. The Huskers, who fell to 10-2 on the year, scored a 49.0 or better on vault and floor and won or shared three individual event titles.
The Huskers saw Erin Davis earn her fifth vault title of the year with a 9.95. Kylie Stone earned a piece of the bars crown with a score of 9.875, and Lora Evenstad tallied her third floor title of the season with a mark of 9.90.
Nebraska opened the meet on bars, where Stone led the way with a season-high 9.875 to tie for first in the event. Maria Scaffidi hit a season-high of 9.825, while Evenstadadded a 9.80 for the Huskers. Kassandra Nathe posted a 9.725, and Brittany Skinner received a mark of 9.65. NU earned a team total of 48.875 to N.C. State's first-rotation vault total of 48.975 and North Carolina's 48.25 on floor.
NU continued on to beam, where Kathryn Howard hit a season-high 9.875 as she tied for second, and Stone posted a 9.775. Nathe notched a 9.625, while Scaffidi and Brittnee Habbib each posted a 9.35 and 9.225, respectively. Nebraska wrapped up beam with a 47.85 and a running score of 96.725 behind the Wolfpack's 97.90 and UNC's 96.85 at the halfway point.
The Huskers moved on to floor, and Evenstad took the event crown and tied her season-high mark of 9.90 for the fourth time this season. Scaffidi added a 9.85, and Maddie Steinauer and Davisboth hit a 9.80. The mark tied Steinauer's season-high score. Habbib added a 9.725 of her own, helping NU to a 49.075 and a running score of 145.75. N.C. State totaled a 146.625 and North Carolina posted a 144.975 heading into the final event.
Nebraska capped the evening on vault, where Davis showed her knack for consistency, as she hit a 9.95 to lead the Huskers and take the event title for the third-straight week. Stone added a 9.85, while Evenstad hit a 9.825. Scaffidi received a score of 9.80, and Steinauer posted a 9.775. NU totaled an event score of 49.20 and a final team total of 195.00 for second, behind N.C. State's 195.575 and ahead of the Tar Heels' 193.875.
Nebraska returns to action next Sunday, Feb. 28, for the 2010 Masters Classic with Arizona, Denver and West Virginia. Competition is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at the Devaney Center.
