Lincoln -- The Nebraska women's gymnastics team continues preparations for the 2010 season with an intrasquad meet on Sunday, Dec. 6 at 4 p.m. The intrasquad will be held at the Bob Devaney Sports Center and is open free of charge to the public.
The Huskers will perform routines on every event, beginning in Olympic order with vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.
Nebraska returns eight letterwinners, including two-time All-American Kylie Stone. The senior is the defending Big 12 Gymnast of the Year and will lead the Huskers again in 2010. In addition, Nebraska boasts 2009 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year Lora Evenstad as well as All-Big 12 selections Kathryn Howard and Erin Davis.
NU also returns a solid performer in junior Maria Scaffidi, who missed the 2009 season due to injury. The Huskers will look for strong showings from sophomores Kristin Fyffe and Kassandra Nathe and juniors Maddie Steinauer and Brittnee Habbib. Freshmen Hannah Bower, Janelle Giblin and Brittany Skinner will provide key depth for the Huskers in 2010.
Nebraska opens the 2010 season Friday, Jan. 8 at Washington at 9 p.m. in Seattle, Wash. The Huskers return home the following week for their first meet at the Bob Devaney Sports Center against Minnesota and Illinois on Friday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. Nebraska will host the 2010 Big 12 Championships at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on March 27 at 2 p.m.
