Game: NU1

11:01 p.m.
UL Lafayette’s longest game since at least 1996; Nebraska’s longest game since last May vs. Texas A&M.

10:42 p.m.
Eric Rose walked the tightrope in the 13th, getting the Huskers out of a bases loaded jam with two strikeouts. NU pitchers now have 21 strikeouts, matching a single game record set at Iowa State (16 inn) in 1999. It is unlikely UL-Lafayette will drop baseball two years later as a good part of the crowd of around 2,800 are still cheering. We now have word the consessions stands have closed though now.

10:42 p.m.
Matt Freeman is now pitching for the Huskers; the fourth pitcher of the night.

10:33 p.m.
Going to the 14th inning still tied up at 3-all. NU's 19 strikeouts equals its highest single-game total this decade (also 19 vs. ULL last year and Texas A&M last year). The game has been so long that the parade traffic near the park has vanished.

10:23 p.m.
The Huskers leave em loaded in the top of the 13th; tied at 3 apiece

10:15 p.m.
The Huskers are getting something going in the 13th, as a hit batter (the second time Sullivan's been hit tonight) and a walk leave two on with no outs. Blake Haagen goes 3-0 to Boomer Collins before Randall Bulliard enters the game. Collins puts down a sacrifice to get both runners into scoring position.

9:55 p.m.
A little drama in the 12th, as Nebraska had a runner on third with two outs. DJ Belfonte broke for home and Robichaux's delivery home led to an argument between Anderson and home plate umpire David Dugas on whether Robichaux's move was a balk, which would have scored Belfonte.  Erik Anderson now on for the Huskers in the 12th

9:45 p.m.
The Huskers escape in the bottom of the 11th, as Farst throws out Greg Fontenot at the plate on a bang-bang play after ULL got runners on first and second off Hauptman, who had set down the first Cajuns in order.

9:33 p.m.
Nebraska threatened in the 11th with a one-out single by Boomer Collins, but could not push across a run. Hauptman has a career-best seven strikeouts over 4.1 innings of work

9:19 p.m.
The Huskers go down in order in the top of the 10th, while Hauptman continues to work for NU.

9:12 p.m.
BONUS BASEBALL  - 10th inning time for the Huskers and ULL. The comeback off Justin Robichaux was NU's second off the ULL closer in as many games; last year NU rallied to tie the score in a game that went 14 innings. Last time NU played extra innings in an opener was a 13-inning affair in 2002 against New Mexico.

9:05 p.m.
DJ Belfonte comes through with a two-out triple into the corner in left, scoring Boomer Collins to tie sthe score at 3-all off of Justin Robichaux.

8:56 p.m.
ULL goes 3-up, 3-down in the eighth, capped by an outstanding play from Jake Mort, who dove to his left and fired a strike to first to get the runner.

8:53 p.m.
Jeff Tezak opened the eighth with a single and NU got the runner to scoring position, but could not plate the equalizer and trail 3-2 heading into the bottom of the eighth.

8:43 p.m.
Hauptman strikes out the side in order in the seventh, as the Huskers will no look to get some late-inning magic trailing 3-2 against ULL closer Justin Robichaux.

8:35 p.m.
Huskers go down in order in the seventh and its seventh-inning stretch time in Lafayette with the Huskers trailing 3-2.
Unfortunately, the video will not work tonight because of Internet issues here in Lafayette.

8:31 p.m.
Hauptman snuffs out the rally with a strikout of Matt Hicks. Mariot allowd two earned runs over 5.2 innings of work with a career high eight strikeouts in his first start. ULL starter Greg Osborne allowed two runs over six innings and is in line for the win. Greg Harmon is now pitching for ULL with the Cajuns holding a 3-2 lead.

8:24 p.m.
ULL is coming up with timely hits, as two-out RBI singles from Les Smith and Kyle Bostick to regain the lead at 3-2 and knock NU starter Michael Mariot out of the game. Casey Hauptman is now pitching for the Huskers

8:13 p.m.
Nebraska started a two-out rally, but could not sustain the momentum, as the Cajuns get out of the frame without any damage. NU leads 2-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth, as Mariot is on the hill.

8:05 p.m.
Mariot continues his strong effort, getting the Huskers out of another jam, as he struck out Harst and Hawkins, the 3-4 hitters in the ULL lineup, to end the fifth.

7:55 p.m.
More sterling defense from the Huskers as DJ Belfonte makes a sliding catch to rob Les Smith of a base hit: NU leads 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth.

7:45 p.m.
Mariot works out of a jam in the fourth, striking out Thad Griffen with runners on the corners. Mariot struck out the side in the frame and has five streikeouts - a career high - as NU leads 2-1 in the top of the fifth

7:26 p.m.
We have our first web gem of the season, as Kyle Bubak made a leaping snare of a hard-hit liner off the bat of Kyle Bostic.

7:25 p.m. -
Nebraska leads 2-1 in the bottom of the third

7:15 p.m.
Sorry for the delay in blogging...we are trying to get the live stat feed back up and running and it should be showing on the live stat page now. We are in the top of the third with the score tied at 1-all. UL-Lafayette took advantage of a Husker error to plate its run in the bottom of the second.

6:56 p.m.
Nebraska leads 1-0 on Ben Kline's two-out RBI single in the top of the second to score Nick Sullivan, who led off the inning with a single. For fans who are attemping to watch the live feed, they are having network issues here in Lafayette and are working to solve the problem.

6:46 p.m.
One change that fans will notice is that NCAA rules now require both base coaches to wear a helmet for safety. Third baae coach Mike Anderson and first base coach Nate Thompson are in the red caps tonight to go with the red jersey and white pants.

6:43 p.m.
The ballpark is playing big tonight with very little wind moving the branches of the trees. Mike Mariot retired the side in order in the bottom of the first, as Matt Hicks sent one of the base of the warning track in left before it was snagged by Nick Sullivan.

6:36 p.m.
Jeff Tezak returned to the lineup with a two-out infield single, but the Huskers were unable to capitalize and we are scoreless heading into the bottom of the first.

6:31 p.m.
DJ Belfonte steps in for a ball from Zach Osborne and the season is underway. Updates will be posted  throughout the game as situations dictate.

6:25 p.m.
UL Lafayette is taking the field and we are almost ready for the national anthem and tonight's first pitch. It is 55 degrees at first pitch with winds from the SSW at 10 miles per hour. After a quick little flub with the national anthem and a very good pickup by the Tigue Moore Field crowd, we are ready for first pitch.

6:08 p.m.
The Huskers will have their work cut out for them this weekend, as the Ragin' Cajuns have won 72 percent of their games at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field since the ballpark opened in 1978. Nebraska is 3-0 in this ballpark, including a 6-3 decision over UL-Lafayette behind All-American Shane Komine in their only previous trip to Lafayette in 2001.

5:45 p.m.
Here is tonight's starting lineups for both teams. The Husker Sports Network will begin its pregame show at 6 p.m. and fans can listen to Greg Sharpe and Lane Grindle by clicking on the link at the top of the page.

While not Husker related, the NCAA unveiled the new Men's College World Series logo this afternoon. To see the new marks, click on the following link  http://www.ncaa.org/wps/ncaa?ContentID=46088

5:25 p.m.
The Husker Sports Network team of Greg Sharpe and Lane Grindle came to the ballpark raving about their lunch this afternoon in Baton Rouge. Before leaving Lincoln, they got a recommendation from Bo Pelini for a place called Gino's Restuarant and were duly impressed. When they walked in today, Gino's first question to Lane and Greg was if Bo had sent them. They spent 10 mintues talking about Bo and Husker football while eating a delicious lunch. Bo also passed along his best wishes to the Husker coaching staff before the team left for the ballpark this afternoon.

5:15 p.m.
Today's starting lineup for the Huskers has been posted and listed below. It is a veteran lineup with only Adam Bailey (RF) and Kyle Bubak (2B) as the only newcomers in tonight's lineup.
