Columbia, Mo.- The No. 13 Nebraska women's gymnastics team rolled past Missouri 195.75-194.75 as they faced the No. 12 Tigers in a conference dual Friday at the Hearnes Center in front of a crowd of 3,459. The Huskers were led by Kylie Stone for the third week in a row, as she took first in the all-around (39.35) and bars (9.875).
"Kylie Stone was 4-4 again," Kendig said. "She has a tremendous heart, she just wants to excel in everything she does."
A strong point for NU proved to be on beam, as Tricia Woo posted a 9.90 and the Huskers hit every routine of the night to close out the win for Nebraska.
"Danna has done a great job of coaching the team and getting them to work on the finer points," Kendig said. "Tricia had an unbelievable beam, without that balance-check, I think she could have gotten a perfect score."
Nebraska started the night off on bars where Lora Evenstad hit a season high with a 9.70. Kathryn Howard followed, notching a 9.65. Brittnee Habbib started her night with a 9.775. Big 12 Co-Gymnast of the Week Kylie Stone and Brittney Wiliams both hit marks of 9.875 to take the event title. Finishing up the event, Kassandra Nathe posted a 9.05. Nebraska completed the first rotation with a team score of 48.875 to Missouri's 48.45.
In the second rotation, the Huskers moved to vault where Stone and Evenstad led the Huskers with marks of 9.80, to tie for third. Nathe kicked off the rotation with a 9.65. Kristin Fyffe added a 9.725. Next up for NU was Erin Davis, who opened her evening with a 9.75. Woo contributed a score of 9.775 to give Nerbaska a season-high event score of 48.85 and a total team score of 97.725 to Missouri's 97.125.
Heading to floor, NU opened with Davis putting up a 9.625. Nathe received a 9.70 for her routine. Evenstad and Habbib each posted marks of 9.725. Stone earned a season-high score of 9.90 and first-place honors, and Woo scored a 9.85 for fourth. Going into the final rotation, the Huskers posted an event score of 48.90 and a running score of 146.625 compared to the Tigers' 145.625.
The Huskers capped the night on beam where Woo took first with a score of 9.90 for the second time this season. Howard totaled a 9.825 to take fourth. Habbib, Fyffe and Nathe all closed their nights with marks of 9.80 and a fourth-place finish. The score was a season-high for Fyffe. Stone earned a 9.775 to cap the night of competition for the Huskers. NU received an event score of 49.125, for a final team score of 195.75 and a win over Missouri (194.75).
"I'm really pleased with the performance and with the effort," Head Coach Dan Kendig said. "Our game-plan is still working, we're trying to improve each and every meet. They competed strong, they competed great as a team."
Nebraska returns to competition Friday, Jan. 30 for its home opener for the 2009 season. NU hosts Penn State at the Devaney Center and competition is set to begin at 7 p.m.
