Huskers Finish Sweep in Rain-Shortened Contest

Lincoln - Nebraska earned a doubleheader sweep of Drake with a 3-0 five-inning victory during a rain-shortened second game at Bowlin Stadium Tuesday. An early evening thunderstorm that moved through the Lincoln area didn't allow the game to be played to its conclusion, but the game was official.

With the win, the Huskers improved to 22-11, while Drake fell to 12-22. Sophomore right-hander Molly Hill was brilliant in the circle, allowing just one hit in five innings while picking up her third shutout of the season. She also struck out seven while walking four. Hill improved to 10-6 on the season and snapped a personal two-game losing streak.

Just as she did in game one, Whitney Barrett was the sparkplug for the Husker offense early in game two. She led off the top of the third with a single, advanced to second on a sacrifice and scored on a one-out single from sophomore Crystal Carwile.

Right before the rain began to fall, the Huskers added to their lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth. Senior Carmen Kier led off with a single and Barrett followed with a walk. They both scored on a two-out throwing error from Drake shortstop Lindsay Larry.

Barrett, who entered Tuesday with only three career hits, went 1-for-2 with a pair of runs scored in game two to cap a four-hit doubleheader. Similarly, senior Jaime Borg collected two hits in the doubleheader after entering the day with only two career hits, with one of those hits coming last Sunday at 17th-ranked Baylor.

The Huskers host another doubleheader tomorrow against Colorado State. First pitch for the first game is set for 2 p.m.
