A total of 39 current and former members of the Nebraska football team were among 270 Nebraska student-athletes named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Fall Honor Roll after earning a grade-point average of 3.0 or better, with 30 of those athletes earning a repeat selection.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
The 39 football players represented the largest group of student-athletes from a single Husker team. Among the 270 NU student-athletes honored, 33 had a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.
Six of the perfect GPAs came from the football team, led by fullback Dane Todd and free safeties Brandon Rigoni and Andrew Shanle. Todd and Shanle each earned their degrees in May of 2006 and were enrolled in graduate courses for the fall semester, while Rigoni earned his degree in December.
Todd, a biological sciences major, led the way for Nebraska in the classroom, as he was named to the honor roll in all nine of his semesters at Nebraska. Todd, a first-team Academic All-American in 2005 and a second-team Academic All-American in 2006, is a three-time first-team academic All-Big 12 selection (2004, 05, 06) in addition to earning CoSIDA Academic All-District VII honors in 2004, 2005, and 2006.
Shanle, a consumer sciences education major, was named to the honor roll in seven of his semesters at Nebraska and was a three-time first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection (2004, 05, 06).
Rigoni, a psychology major, was named to the honor roll for the ninth consecutive semester, while the Lincoln, Neb. native and senior captain was also a two-time first-team academic All-Big 12 (2004, 05) selection.
Senior Brandon Koch, whose final year of eligibility with the team was in the 2005 season, additionally earned a perfect GPA. Koch, social science education major, was named to the honor roll in seven semesters at Nebraska and was a three-time Academic All-Big 12 recipient (2003, 04, 05).
The two remaining perfect GPAs were earned by sophomore Jordan Congdon and sophomore Tyler Wortman.
