Lincoln ? Junior Trisha Tannahill went 3-for-3 with two RBIs to pace a 14-hit attack as the Nebraska softball team shut out North DakotaState for the second straight day, 8-0, Thursday afternoon at Bowlin Stadium.
Tannahill was one of a trio of Huskers to record three hits for Nebraska (23-13, 1-4 Big 12). Joining Tannahill with three hits were senior Anne Steffan (3-for-4) and junior Jessica Yoachim (3-for-4). Senior Sheena Lawrick (2-for-4) also recorded a multi-hit game for NU. The Huskers out-hit the Bison, 14-1.
In the circle, freshman right-hander Jordan Keen matched sophomore Ashley DeBuhr’s performance on Wednesday by tossing a one-hitter of her own. Keen (8-2) allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out five in tossing the second shutout of her career. Grete Peterson attempted to score from second on Hyatt’s single, but was thrown out by NU right fielder Elizabeth Rock.
Keen took a perfect game into the sixth inning before surrendering a leadoff walk. Heather Hyatt then broke up a no-hitter for the second straight game by singling in the sixth.
Allison Bakke (7-10) took the loss for North DakotaState (15-16), allowing five runs on nine hits in 3.2 innings of work. Bekki Rasmussen allowed three runs on five hits in 1.1 innings of relief.
NU struck for two runs in the first to take control of the game early. Steffan led off the inning with an infield single and Lawrick followed with a one-out single. Sophomore Jamie Waldecker drew a walk to load the bases for Tannahill. Tannahill delivered with a two-run single to score Steffan and Lawrick.
After being shutout in the second inning, the Huskers responded with two more runs in the third inning to take a commanding 4-0 lead. Yoachim led off with a single through the left side and stole second. She advanced to third on a fly out by Lawrick and came home on a sacrifice fly by Waldecker. The Huskers added another run when Tannahill singled, stole second and came home on an RBI single off the bat of sophomore Devin Porter.
Nebraska added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to stretch the lead to 6-0. Sophomore Carmen Kier led off the fourth with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. She advanced to third on a one-out sacrifice from Rock and scored on an RBI single from Steffan.
In the fifth, Waldecker led off with a single and Tannahill followed with another single. They advanced to second and third on a ground out by Porter and pinch runner Kira Boerkircher scored on a sacrifice fly from junior KoKo Tacha.
NU closed out the run-rule victory with a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Steffan led off with a single and advanced to third on a single by Yoachim. Yoachim stole second to put two runners in scoring position for Lawrick, who drove both runners in with a double down the left field line.
Nebraska returns to action this weekend with a pair of games at No. 9 Baylor. First pitch on Saturday is set for 2 p.m. and a Noon start is scheduled for Sunday.
