A total of 24 Nebraska football players have been honored by the Big 12 Conference as members of the 2004 Academic All-Big 12 team. The Huskers had a conference-leading 18 first-team selections, with an additional six players named to the second team.
The Husker honorees were led by senior linebacker Chad Sievers, sophomore center Kurt Mann and sophomore fullback Dane Todd who all carry perfect 4.0 grade-point averages. Only one other player in the conference made the team with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.
Among Nebraska’s honorees four players earned first-team honors for the third time, including Sievers, place-kicker Sandro DeAngelis, linebacker Barrett Ruud, and defensive back Shane Siegel. Senior fullback Steve Kriewald earned first-team honors in 2004, after being a second-team selection each of the past three years.
