Palo Alto, Calif. -- Nebraska senior Melissa Price posted an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 213-7 in the hammer throw to win the elite section at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday. Two other NU throwers also posted NCAA qualifying marks.
Sophomore Amanda Moreley finished first in the B section of the hammer throw with a personal-best and NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 189-0. Moreley finished seventh in the hammer at the 2001 Big 12 outdoor championships, while Price, who redshirted last outdoor season, won the event title at the 2000 league championships.
Freshman thrower Becky Breisch also posted a personal-best mark on Saturday, finishing second in the discus with a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 173-1. On Friday, Breisch finished third in the shot put with a personal-best and NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 54-8.
In the top section of the 1,500 meters, Nebraska junior James Bowler recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:44.40 with a 12th-place finish.
On Friday, Husker senior Marcus Witter placed 18th in the top section of the 10,000 meters with a personal-best and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 29:09.53 at the Stanford Invitational.Witter improved his previous best mark of 29:34.68, posted at the Stanford Invitational in 2000.
Nebraska junior Emily Wolken placed fifth in the javelin with a personal-best and NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 153-3. Senior sprinter Lesley Owusu finished second in the B section of the 800 meters in a time of 2:09.59.
The Huskers will compete at the Texas Relays April 3-6.
