NU Improves to 6-0 in the Big 12 Conference

Lincoln ? Sophomore right-hander Summer Tobias threw seven innings of two-hit ball in notching her fourth shutout of the season in the Huskers’ 6-0 win over Iowa State on Wednesday at Bowlin Stadium. By blanking the Cyclones, Tobias extended NU’s scoreless streak to 42.1 innings and picked up the team’s sixth straight shutout, the longest such streak since 1998.

With the win, No. 19 Nebraska (27-11, 6-0) picked up its 11th straight victory over Iowa State (9-20, 1-4) and its ninth consecutive win overall. Tobias improved to 5-5 with the win, while the Cyclones’ Alyssa Ransom fell to 7-11 after allowing six runs on nine hits in 4.2 innings.

Offensively, NU used a five-run fifth inning to put the game out of reach. Junior Jocelyn Evans led off with a single before freshman Devin Porter doubled with one out to score junior pinch runner Kira Boerkircher. Following the second out of the inning, junior Anne Steffan singled and senior Nicole Trimboli was intentionally walked to load the bases for sophomore Trisha Tannahill.

Tannahill delivered her second and third RBIs of the game with a two-run single to score Porter and Steffan. Freshman Jamie Waldecker and senior Peaches James each followed with RBI singles that put Nebraska up 6-0.

Tannahill, who finished the game 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBIs, led a Husker attack that saw three player record multi-hit games. Steffan finished the day 2-for-4, while Waldecker went 2-for-3.

The game was scoreless heading into the bottom of the fourth before Tannahill delivered her team-high eighth game-winning RBI.

In the fourth, Steffan led off with a bunt single to pick up the Huskers’ first hit of the game. Steffan moved up to second base on a ground out by Trimboli. That brought Tannahill to the plate, who singled to score Steffan and put NU up 1-0.

Nebraska, which leads the Big 12 Conference with a 6-0 record, heads to Austin, Texas, this Friday and Saturday for a two-game set with the Texas Longhorns.
