Huskers Strong in Drake Relays

Des Moines, Iowa ? Junior Becky Breisch unleashed another school-record throw in the discus, winning the event by more than 30 feet with a heave of 205-5 to lead the Nebraska track and field team at the Drake Relays on Friday. The mark was also good for a Drake Relays record.

Breisch also won the womens’ shot put with a toss of 56-11 ?. Fellow teammate and Iowa native Leann Boerema finished fifth with a throw of 51-10 in the shot. Jennifer Steiner finished 15th in the discus with a toss of 150-3.

Freshman Jenny Green won the women’s pole vault, clearing 12-11 ?, while Christi Lehman took second making the same height. Alissa Koerner tied for seventh place, leaping 12-3 ?.

Andy Nelson dropped more half a second off his personal-best mark in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking a third-place time of 51.73. Danny Hill ran a time of 53.00 to come in 13th on the day.

Maggi Escudero set a personal-best time of 1:01.22 to finish 12th in the women’s 400-meter hurdles. Justine Roach clocked a season-best time of 1:01.66, finishing 15th.

The men’s 4x400-meter relay team qualified for the finals of the event scheduled for Saturday afternoon. The relay team clocked a time of 3:08.88 to finish second in its heat and fourth overall.

Brad Teeple tied for 10th place in the men’s pole vault, clearing 16-4 ?, while freshman Gable Baldwin was 16th with a height of 16-0 ?.

Several other Huskers competed in the Nebraska Wesleyan Twilight, but results were not available early enough to include in this release. Those results will be included in Saturday’s release.

Nebraska will wrap up the Drake Relays on Saturday with several events, including Priscilla Lopes in the Olympic Development heat of the 100-meter hurdles.
