The Nebraska men's golf team dominated the links Tuesday to take home its first tournament title since the 1998-99 season. The Huskers finished the day Monday with all five competitors in the top-25. The squad carded rounds of 290, 281 and 295 for a final score of 866, a team best since 1998.
Junior J.J. Sullivan recorded a career-best finish with a tie for fourth place. Sullivan used rounds of 71, 70 and 73 for a total score of 214. Three strokes back, junior Jim Troy carded a 70 for the day to finish in a tie for 10th. Senior Blake Humbles fired a 219 to complete the tournament in a 13th-place tie, while junior Kevin Bryson tied for 15th with a score of 220. Sophomore Chris Hartwig shot a 223 over 54 holes to tie for 28th.
"I'm really proud of the guys. All five contributed and I am happy for them," head coach Bill Spangler said of the team's victory.
Jeremy Lyons, who held the lead after Monday's rounds, claimed the individual title with scores of 69, 66 and 76 for a total of 211.
The squad will return to the links for the Kansas State Invitational on April 14.
