The Nebraska men's golf team completed the first day of the Branson Creek Invitational Monday in second place. The squad used rounds of 290 and 281 for a two-round score of 571 (+3).
Junior J.J. Sullivan carded rounds of 71 and 70 to lead the squad and is presently in a tie for third place. Two strokes back of Sullivan, senior Blake Humbles stands in a tie for 11th-place with a score of 143. Junior Kevin Bryson is tied for 14th with a two-round score of 144 while Chris Hartwig is in a tie for 16th with a 145. Rounding out the starting five, junior Jim Troy carded a 147 on the day to sit in a 20th-place tie.
"I'm happy for the players to have the opportunity to win the team title," head coach Bill Spangler said. "Their hard work showed today and will hopefully put them in contention to take home the title."
With a score of 563, Iowa State currently holds the first-place spot while its own Jeremy Lyons carded rounds of 69 and 66 to clench a five-stroke lead in individual competition.
The tournament will conclude with a final 18 holes on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
