Husker junior Jim Troy scored a first-place finish Sunday, to lead the Nebraska men's golf team to a second-place finish at the Wildcat Invitational. Despite nearly 40 mile per hour winds and warm temperatures, the squad carded rounds of 310 and 308 in the 36-hole tournament for a total of 618. Troy tallied-up a 151 to claim medalist honors and a career-best finish.
"I hit the ball long and straight and made some key puts. I just tried to stay focused throughout the competition," Troy said of his performance.
Sophomore Chris Hartwig shot rounds of 76 and 78 for a total of 154 to finish the competition in a fifth-place tie, a career-best finish. Junior J.J. Sullivan fired a 157 to tie for ninth, while Senior Blake Humbles used a 158 for an 11th-place tie. Rounding out the Husker squad, junior Kevin Bryson tied for 22nd place with a two-round score of 163.
"The guys played good rounds of golf today in difficult conditions," Coach Bill Spangler said.
Host Kansas State took home the team title with rounds of 299 and 311 for a score of 610 over 36 holes.
The Huskers return to the links April 21-22, for the Drake Invitational, their last competition before the Big 12 Tournament.
