NU in 11th-Place Tie at Purina Classic; Individuals Compete in Lincoln

St. Charles, Mo. -- The Nebraska men's golf team carded rounds of 297 and 295 Monday to end the first day of the Purina Classic in 11th place.

With a two-round score of 569, Illinois holds the first-place spot. Mark McBride of Missouri recorded consecutive rounds of 68 to take the individual lead.

Junior Jim Troy led the Husker squad with scores of 71 and 75 for a total of 146 and is tied for 30th. Junior J.J. Sullivan shot a two-round score of 147 to grab a share of 32nd place, while junior Justin Borzych carded a 149 to end the first day in a 44th-place tie. Senior Blake Humbles totaled 150 and is in a tie for 50th place. Rounding out the Nebraska lineup, junior Andy McCabe scored a 157 and sits in a tie for 74th.

The tournament will continue Tuesday with a final 18 holes beginning at 8:15 a.m.

Other Husker golfers are in action at the Nebraska Wesleyan Fall Preview in Lincoln. Junior Kevin Bryson, sophomore Chris Hartwig and freshman Jonathan Aten competed as individuals in the first round Monday at Firethorn Golf Course. Bryson used a score of 77 to finish the day in a tie for eighth place. Hartwig recorded an 83 while Aten carded an 84 to sit in in ties for 33rd and 39th respectively. The Fall Preview will also conclude on Tuesday.
