Lincoln -- The No. 67 Nebraska women's tennis team improved to 6-3 on the season with a 5-4 upset victory over No. 33 Texas A&M Sunday at the Woods Tennis Center The win was NU's second over a ranked opponent this season, as the Huskers improve to 1-2 in Big 12 Conference action.
Trailing 4-2 after the six singles matches, the Huskers swept all three doubles matches to pull out the upset over the Aggies, the Big 12 runner-up last season. Sophomore Sandra Noetzel and senior Jennifer Thoste defeated Eva Marcial and Kathryn Scott of A&M, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles, senior Lisa Hart and freshman Ndali Ijomah defeated Monica Rebolledo and Monica San Miguel, 8-4,at No. 2 doubles and sophomore Gina Pelazini and freshman Kelli Clark defeated Monica de la Torre and Lisa Dingwall, 8-5, at No. 3 doubles to complete the sweep.
Noetzel and Hart also posted NU's two singles victories, both in straight sets. Noetzel defeated Dingwall 6-0, 6-4,while Hart was victorious over Monica San Miguel, 6-3, 6-1. NU took three other matches to a third set, but were unable to win at third, fifth or sixth singles.
With the loss, the Aggies, who defeated NU 7-2 in College Station, drop to 9-4 overall and 2-2 in the Big 12.
The Huskers return to action on Friday, March 13, Nebraska travels to Des Moines, Iowa, to face Eastern Michigan at 5 p.m.
