Lincoln -- The No. 67 Nebraska women's tennis team fell to 5-3 on the season with a 5-4 loss to Texas Tech Sunday at the Woods Tennis Center. With the win, the Red Raiders, ranked 73rd nationally, improves to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the Big 12. The Huskers, who had won five of their last six matches before today, fall to 5-3 overall and 0-2 in the Big 12.
The Red Raiders won four of the six singles matches, including three-set matches at No. 1 and No. 5 singles. For Nebraska, senior Lisa Hart improved to 6-2 on the season with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Amanda Earhart and senior Adriana Dulic moved to 2-1 after a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Misty Meyer at No. 6 singles.
In doubles, NU won two of the three matches, as Hart and freshman Ndali Ijomah improved to 5-0 on the season with an 8-4 victory over Lakshmi Ravinra and Christine Van Regenmorter. At No. 3 doubles, sophomore Gina Pelazini and freshman Kelli Clark defeated Sarada Ravindra and Misty Meyer, 8-5.
Despite the loss, Nebraska Coach Scott Jacobson saw some positives in the effort.
"I thought that Lisa Hart did a tremendous job for us," Jacobson said. "She had lost to Earhart last season and defeated her in straight sets today. She keeps getting better for us. I was also pleased by the competitiveness that Ndali showed today. Even though she was hurt, Ndali gave 100 percent and was able to win at No 2 doubles after a tough singles loss. That shows the type of competitor she is.
"We were out competed today," Jacobson said. "We had chances to win at No.1 and No. 5 singles, but lost the third set in both matches. We need to win those matches to be competitive at this level."
The Huskers return to action on Sunday, March 8, when the Huskers play host to No. 38 Texas A&M at the Woods Tennis Center beginning at 10 a.m.
