Mark Perry was an assistant coach at Nebraska under Tim Neumann for seven seasons from 1985-1992, and was actually Neumann's first addition to the Husker coaching staff when he took over in 1985. Perry helped guide the Huskers to an 81-38 dual record in his seven seasons, including a 21-2 season in 1989-90. Nebraska finished in the top-10 at the NCAA Championships twice under Perry and crowned 14 All-Americans, including one national champion.
In addition to his wrestlers earning awards on the mat, Perry was named the 1990 Assistant Coach of the Year by Amateur Wrestling News. Perry worked primarily with the lower five weights during his time at Nebraska.
A two-time All-American and two-time Big Eight champion, Perry came to Nebraska after a stellar career at Oklahoma State. He was the No. 1-ranked 118-pounder in the nation for most of the 1984-85 season and posted a 39-3 mark, including a then-OSU record 18 falls. Perry finished with a career record of 102-22-2, which ranked high on the Cowboys' all-time chart. He also won two consecutive Las Vegas Invitational championships.
A native of Del City, Okla., Perry is married to the former Cathy Smith, the sister of 1988 Olympic Gold medalist John Smith. Mark and Cathy have two sons, Mark Jr. and Chris.
