Senior (2017-18)
Emily Gillman was a leader for a young Husker team as a senior in 2017-18. A two-time WGCA Scholastic All-American, Gillman was a regular contributor for the Huskers throughout her career, finishing with a 79.31 career stroke average over 70 rounds.
She opened her fourth season by playing as an individual outside the Husker lineup at the UNO Invitational at ArborLinks in Nebraska City, Sept. 1-2. Gillman managed a three-round total of 240 (73-86-81) to tie for 32nd. She added a tie for 35th with a 242 (84-81-77) at Nebraska's lone home tournament of the season at the Chip-N Club Invitational at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course in Lincoln, Oct. 1-3.
The Austin, Texas native was a leader in the community as a three-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team and a winner of a prestigious Sam Foltz Hero 27 Leadership Award in 2017.
Junior (2016-17)
Gillman shaved strokes off her game in her third season with the Huskers in 2016-17. She produced the best tournament of her career with a three-round total of 219 (72-75-72) to tie for 23rd at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate in Highlands Ranch, Colo., Oct. 7-9. Gillman's first and final rounds in Colorado both provided career-best even-par scores, as she notched the first top-25 finish of her collegiate career in a 102-player field.
Gillman added a two-round total of 150 (77-73) at the rain-shortened Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, Oct. 23-25. She tied for 84th in a loaded 105-player field in Las Vegas.
Gillman competed inside Nebraska's lineup in nine of 10 tournaments in 2016-17 and finished with a 79.16 stroke average, which represents a 2.01 improvement over her 2015-16 campaign.
Gillman tied for 75th (86-77-77-240) at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic in Fort Collins, Colo., to open the fall. She tied for 28th (79-78-157) at the East & West Match Play Challenge in Ann Arbor, Mich., Sept. 18-20, before finishing 39th (77-76-83-236) at Nebraska's Chip-N Club Invitational, Sept. 25-27.
She produced a three-round total of 231 (74-80-77) to tie for 63rd at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz., Feb. 26-27, before tying for 74th (80-81=85-246) in a loaded field at the Clover Cup in Mesa, Ariz., March 17-19.
She closed her junior season by finished 72nd (80-81-86-247) at the Big Ten Championships at TPC River's Bend in Maineville, Ohio, April 21-23.
Gillman starred off the course, earning her second spot on the WGCA All-American Scholar team in 2017. She was also an academic All-Big Ten selection and was named to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters of 2016-17. She also claimed a Sam Foltz Hero 27 Leadership Award and was named to the 2017 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
Sophomore (2015-16)
Gillman competed in 12 rounds for the Huskers in 2015-16, earning her second varsity letter. The sophomore from Austin, Texas, managed an 81.17 stroke average, while competing in four tournaments as an individual outside Nebraska's lineup.
She opened her sophomore campaign by finishing 60th (85-81-83-249) at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational at Colbert Hills. Gillman competed as an individual outside the Husker lineup at Kansas State.
She managed a 245 (87-77-81) to tie for 57th at Nebraska's Chip-N Club Invitational at the Country Club of Lincoln, Oct. 5-6. Gillman competed as an individual at the Chip-N Club.
Gillman returned for her first action of the spring at the Clover Cup in Mesa, Ariz., March 11-13.
She compiled a season-best three-round total of 236 (77-78-81). She tied for 65th in a 99-player field at the Clover Cup. She added her fourth appearance as an individual by tying for 77th with a 244 (87-82-75) at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Hawaii Invitational, March 22-23. Her final-round 75 was a season best.
A star off the course, Gillman was named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and earned academic All-Big Ten honors in 2016. She also earned spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters.
Freshman (2014-15)
Gillman made an immediate impact as a freshman, consistently battling for time in the Husker lineup. She made her first appearance in the NU top five at the GolfWeek Conference Challenge in Vail, Colo., Sept. 22-24. Gillman, who traveled to the tournament to play as an individual, replaced fellow freshman Audrey Judd in the Nebraska lineup at the tournament. Gillman helped the Huskers with a three-round score of 237 (79-82-76) to tie for 64th in a strong field.
Gillman appeared in Nebraska's top five at all five tournaments during the spring, including a career-best 224 (75-74-75) at the Westbrook Invitational in Peoria, Ariz., Feb. 22-23. Her second-round 74 was a career best. Each of her three rounds at Westbrook counted toward NU's team score, as she matched Cassie Deeg as the Huskers' No. 2 finisher in a tie for 48th.
Gillman matched her season and career bests with a three-round score of 224 and a 74 in the second round at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz., March 20-21. She settled for a tie for 73rd (81-81-83-245) at the SMU/Dallas Athletic Club Invitational, April 10-11.
Gillman bounced back to earn a lineup spot for the Huskers at the 2015 Big Ten Championships in Indianapolis, April 24-26, closing as NU's No. 4 finisher in a tie for 67th at 237 (83-76-78). She ended the season with a 78.22 stroke average which ranked No. 7 among all freshmen in Nebraska history.
In between her career-best three-round totals in the spring, Gillman was NU's No. 3 finisher in a tie for 60th (85-75-80-240) at the Clover Cup in Mesa, Ariz., March 13-15.
Gillman competed as an individual at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate in Highlands Ranch, Colo., Oct. 10-12, tying for 45th with a 235 (80-77-78). She matched that score with another 235 (75-78-82) as an individual at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational to close the fall season Oct. 22-23. Her effort in Hawaii included a three-over-par 75 in the first round.
Gillman opened her Husker career with a three-round total of 235 (78-81-76) to finish in a tie for 35th at the 62-player Chip-N Club Invitational at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course in Lincoln, Sept. 8-9. Gillman competed as an individual outside the NU lineup.
High School/Amateur
Gillman was a four-year starter on an Austin Lake Travis team that captured the 2013 Texas Class 5A high school state title, its first championship in its first season in Class 5A.
The Cavaliers finished second in Class 4A during Gillman's freshman season in 2011, when she took 15th individually. As a sophomore in 2012, Gillman climbed to 11th at the Class 4A tournament, posting a two-round total of 154 (79-75) as the Cavaliers' top finisher on their way to a third-place team finish for Coach Randy Morris. She finished 25th individually at the 2013 state championships with a two-round score of 155 that included a second-round 73. Lake Travis added a second-place finish in Class 5A in 2014, while Gillman tied for 31st individually (80-78-158). She earned second-team all-state honors in 2012, and was an honorable-mention all-stater in 2011, 2013 and 2014.
The four-time academic all-stater also qualified for the U.S. Junior Girls National Championship in 2013. She finished 10th at the PGA Junior Series event at Arbor Links in 2013. She finished eighth at Arbor Links in 2012.
Personal
Emily is the daughter of Mark and Laura Gillman and was born Oct. 21, 1995, in Austin, Texas. Emily has two younger sisters, Kristen and Jessica.Â
Emily majored in marketing and earned her bachelor's degree from Nebraska in May of 2018. She was named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2016 and 2018. An academic All-Big Ten choice in 2016, 2017 and 2018, she was also an eight-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. She was a WGCA Scholastic All-American in 2015 and 2017. She earned a prestigious Sam Foltz Hero 27 Leadership Award for her extensive commitment to Nebraska's community outreach programs. She also claimed spots on the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team in 2016, 2017 and 2018. She participated in Nebraska's Life Skills Service Trip Abroad to Bocas del Toro, Panama in May of 2018.
