Outlook (2018-19)
Brooke Newell enters her second season in the Husker program after taking a redshirt season in 2017-18. The 2016 Iowa Class 3A Co-Golfer of the Year carries an outstanding short game and is working to add length.

“Brooke’s decision to redshirt in her first season was a good one and she spent the summer practicing and competing,” Nebraska Coach Robin Krapfl said. “She has a wonderful short game with an excellent touch around the greens that is among the best on our team. Her long game continues to improve, and she could be right in the mix for a spot in the starting lineup.”

Redshirt (2017-18)
Newell redshirted in her first season at Nebraska in 2017-18. While working to improve her game on the course, she earned a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the spring of 2018. She was also a member of the 2018 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.

Individually, Newell was the Class 3A Co-Golfer of the Year in 2016 after finishing as the state runner-up. She added another individual state runner-up finish as a senior. She added a third-place individual finish as a sophomore in 2015, and was a member of Atlantic’s Class 3A state championship team as a freshman in 2014.

A three-sport athlete, Newell was a three-time Hawkeye Ten Conference champion. As a junior in 2016, she won the league title after shooting a 69 at Fox Run Golf Course in Council Bluffs. The three-time first-team all-state golfer was also a member of the Class 3A All-Tournament team her final three seasons, Newell was a second-team all-state selection as a freshman in 2014. She was also a four-time first-team all-district and first-team All-Hawkeye Ten Conference choice for Coach Kathy Hobson at Atlantic.

As a softball player, Newell captured All-Western Iowa and All-Hawkeye Ten Conference honors as a catcher/utility player in both 2015 and 2016 for the Trojans. In 2016, she helped the Atlantic softball team to its first state tournament appearance in the 42-year history of the program.
